White steel wheels on a red Skoda VRS Mk1?

Featured Replies

I'm currently working out my winter tyre strategy for next winter, and thought I might try something a bit different...

I'll be swapping the standard 16" alloys for 15" steels to fit the lovely Vredesteins I've just bought. Instead of leaving the steelies black/rusting, I was thinking I might sand them down, treat/prime them, get out the old Hammerite spray, and paint them white!

Cheap and cheerful, but I think it might look quite good on my standard Fabia VRS. The old 106 Rallye springs to mind.

What do you guys think? Would it look semi-decent, or am I just being a wally?

I opted to give it a go without winter tyres last winter, and regretted it on more than a few occasions (it's really ******* embarressing struggling in car parks when there's more than an inch of snow). I've had good experiences with Vredesteins in previous years, so they were my first choice. Ordered them through mytyres.co.uk

Err good luck, 15" won't fit over vrs brakes unless it's a fabia lol

It's not a Fabia I know, but I painted the G60s on my Polo white for winter. I think they looked pretty decent for what they were. (I was going 205 GTI/106 Rallye style too!) Kept the BBSs in good condition, and that's enough motive for me.

A few spray cans won't cost much so there's not much lost if you don't like it and change your mind for next year.

Only pictures I can find:

Ummm - which part of "Cheap and cheerful, but I think it might look quite good on my standard Fabia vRS" did you fail to spot?

Back to OP, no idea of the car colour, but at least it it looks completely naff it would only need another coat of a different coloured Hammerite (incidentally, did you mean Smoothrite, as Hammerite really would look naff, whatever the colour)

Missed it soz lol

Thanks very much for the input Triggerfish and BJM. Very useful. I'll check out Smoothrite for sure. Any more paint tips would be appreciated too.Edit: This is the paint I was planning on using:http://www.hammerite.co.uk/products/direct_to_rust_metal_paint_aerosol_smooth_finish.jspI know it says I don't need primer, but I was considering it anyway, or at least pre-treating the wheels.

For some reason I think it'll look okay - can't think why though..... :notme:

as an ex rallye owner I say go for it!!

Red and white is a good combination. I used to have a C2 Gt a few years back and loved the contrast. Here's another of the Rallye, purely for my own sake.

Well, it's a no-brainer then. I'm off to buy the Smoothrite.

Once they're fitted (probably Nov, early Dec), I'l take a pic, and post it here.

I always wanted a rallye...
