Castle Combe Open Pit Day 3rd June

Featured Replies

Mine died in about 15 mins

Sounds familiar russ

Bad times indeed

Yeh not great, but atleast it wasn't anything serious (car into the barrier or engine letting go).

Well seeing as there were a couple of bailers (mentioning no names ;)) I donned the oven gloves and had a great day with a mostly empty Combe.

You could see bits of tumble weed rolling past at some points in the paddock - completely different to what you would find at an action day! T-shirt/breast fapping bass not present, just the smell of burnt rubber and hot brakes - just the way it should be!

It's a shame your issues ended your day early Russ, but as you said - **** happens!

Fortunately I had a day of virtually no issues. Limp mode kicked in at the end of the first session, which proceeded to make the exhaust rather loud. My thinking is that the vanes got stuck in a certain position, as I've never heard my car so throaty before. Turned it off and on again and it was back to normal levels. Absolutely thrashed it round all day, sparking a few comments from other drivers who were caught unaware :)

Completely finished off the toyo's too, which after 20k miles of motorway commuting, 2 brisky sessions, and a full trackday - rather surprised me with their longevity! Let's see how the SportContact3's last in comparison!

Anyway here are some pics, and one video - I'm not uploading all of them as I'll be sat here all week!

Ah you know him? I was following it in the video :)

Yes, did well there. (as usual :) )

Shame you didn't get a pass in as I could have ribbed him about that for ages! :D

He also has a (2010?) R35 and is buying the 2011 suspension from mine as it's better.

My video from my sighting laps (after the safety car pulled in).

That data logging display is very impressive.

What is it?

It's called Harry's Laptimer, it's an app for the iPhone and I think now Android too, you can use bluetooth / wifi obdII dongles with it too, to add a few different features (throttle and brake pedal movements etc).

It's the latest Grand Prix edition, which means it will connect to other iOS devices (and also a GoPro 2 with wifi bacpac or 3 Black etc) and allows you to have multicam angles.

So I used my iPhone 5 in the windscreen and my old iPhone 4s in the rear window, and I had my gopro 3 black hanging from the roof, but I haven't worked out how to get the gopro vids linked in yet, so they will be uploaded raw later on instead :)

Wow, cool idea Cossie!

Will look into this now :D

Next question, what mount did you use?

I "cobbled" some together lol

I got 2 go pro flat adheasive mounts, and stuck 1 to the windscreen and 1 to the back of the iphone (used a hard cover on the iphone 5), then got 2 of the curved J hook buckles (http://t0.gstatic.co...p1uVKobhC3IXbKQ) and screwed those together, so that the tips touched eachother, and this gave the right angle to fit the ip5 to the top of the screen but still see the edge of the bonnet.

For the rear camera, I used another 2 flat adheasive mounts (1 on rear window by the centre brake light and 1 on the back of the 4s, but I put a thin piece of double sided tape on the phone itself and stuck the pad to that without removing the backing, so I can still use that pad on something else again :D) and 2 of the Horizontal Surface Quick-Release Buckles (http://i.ebayimg.com...ZEVQ~~60_35.JPG) with the Pivot Arm Assembly to allow adjustment to get the correct angle.

Basicly I bought a 2nd grab bag of mounts to get the bits and some extra adheasive mounts as this was the easiest "trackday friendly" way I could think of doing it.

I then bought the sucker mount (not allowed on trackdays) and stuck it to the inside of my roof (no roof lining in my car) and mounted the gopro to that with my spare Pivot Arm Assembly from the grab bag).

Video of my 2nd and last session of the day.

For some reason the rear camera only recorded 2 laps before it turned off, so it was pointless overlaying the rear camera.

GoPro vid of the 1st session finally uploaded.

Last video from me :(

It's still called Harry's Laptimer on Android, he might not have finished development of it yet though.
