Does this mod increase the mpg?

Try a search, been discussed many times, some say it does, some say it doesnt, imo, it hasnt affected mpg one bit.

Shouldn't affect it as the same amount of fuel is still being injected into the engine

I personally found the panel filter smoothed the engine, as the OEM filter filled the airbox.

The PD 160 intake appears to dramatically reduce soot after remap.

Diesels are different to petrol. All the available air is forced into the cylinder and the ECU just squirts diesel in, unlike a petrol where the ECU determines the correct mix and then injects this into the cylinder.....

So, regardless of how much air is going in, the same amount of diesel is injected, it just burns more completely so it's less sooty.........

At least, that's my understanding....

There must more to it now with Euro4 emissions etc. Also old diesels did just quirt in the fuel. What is the MAF for? I thought it was to to tell the ECU the mass of the intake air so the fueling can be adjusted to keep within the euro emissions.

Correct, with modern diesels fuel quanity is adjusted by the ECU.

Yet more reason to make sure sufficient air reaches it As although the ECU can add fuel when there is sufficient air, it may also reduce it (if not) so you ought to get a better chance to increase fuelling

I'm confused by this..... if the ECU adjusts the fuel based on the level of air, then why are diesel smokey under hard acceleration? :confused:
