Knocking Noise when engaging clutch

Hi, I'm sorry if that was covered somewhere else but I did look and couldn't get right answer.

I own 02 octy vrs, my cocncern is that knocking/mechanical sound when I engage clutch after a gear change.

It's not very loud but you can hear it coming from clutch area. Also it doesn't happen when I engage clutch slowly( smoothly so to speak).

The clutch doesn't slip and car pulls off quick from standing.

Can anyone tell me what could be the cause of that. I am cosidering buying new clutch kit and flywheel but I would rather listen to diffrent

opinions first.

Could be your dogbone mount is knackered allowing your engine to move backwards making a clonk sound

Could also be the start of DMF failure.

I'll try to record but it won't be untill next week as I'm working all weekend. And besides I don't think is loud enough to be picked up by mic.

I'll give it a go though.

Could master cylinder be the case??

Thread revival, but having done a search this is the closest fitting thread! 


Our Octavia knocks when setting off in 1st, a dull metallic wrapping noise under the front. Reminiscent of my old Mini 850 with a sheared engine steady. Is there a similar sort or arrangement I should be looking at on this?

I've got the same kinda noise on my vRS, tbh, I lack a certain clutch pedal finesse and think I've probably knackered the gearbox mount (got a powerflex tdi dogbone mount in) :(
