Help Needed - Headlight Switch Bezel/Surround

Featured Replies

i bought a chrome version of the headlight switch, designed for the mk6 gti, thinking it should b a straight fit......but it ain't. the surround/bezel for the golf is much smaller & of a slightly different shape to the ones on the octavia. the rest is identical.

so plan is it to swap the surround from mine with the one i bought.

now, i'm hoping someone here can shed some light on how to remove the bezel surround around the headlight switch.

it's clipped on to the switch module, put i can't lift it clear cause of the "knob" (the chrome handle). the pics explain it better.

any ideas how to remove this knob so i can remove that surround?

please help.

the pics below r of the one i bought - from the golf.

Pull the chrome trim off that runs horizontal either side of the switch and the trim surrounding the switch will also come off without damage.

At least that's what happens on mine.

For the unfitted one, I suspect you need to pull it in the right place...

To remove the switch unit you have to firmly push the knob in and turn it to the right, the unit can then be withdrawn. I would guess that the knob has a shaft running through the switch unit, so I would be looking for a retaining clip on the underside of the switch unit, if the unit is servicable at all, it might be sealed and unservicable. If you do get it apart there could be springs and ball bearings on the floor that you won't get back together again.

I did that and it came off, but the little clips behind the bezel are broken. I don't however know if this was my doing or the previous owners.

if you can take the new unit apart you could try nail polish on the led's to make them show green?
