Oil pressure warning light

Featured Replies

I have a 2006 skoda octavia vrs when the ignition is on after a couple of seconds I get oil pressure warning light but when I turn the engine on it disappears. Any one know why that is or what's wrong?

What does the Owners Manual say.?

Does it say that when you turn on the Ignition the Oil Pressure Warning light will display to check,

then extinguish?

That way you know it will work in the event of low oil pressure.

Just guessing there, and going on other vehicles & check lights when ignition is turned on.

If it is an oil pressure issue your oil pickup pipe in the sump will be blocked!

Very common on the 1.8t! And will cause engine failure if not remedied promptly

Assuming you have a mk1 vrs as you state 2006 so could be a mk2

Just guessing here

It's a Mk2 2.0turbo. Owners manual doesn't say n e thing about wen the ignition is on. Only when the engine is running. The lights keeps flashing when the ignition is on

Nothing in the Manual like.

"The warning light comes on for a few seconds when the ignition is switched on".

"Stop the vehicle & switch the engine off if the warning light does not go off after the engine has started or flashes while driving.

Check the oil level and top up with oil if necessary."

"The warning light on vehicles fitted with information display does not come on with switching the ignition on, but only if a fault exists or the engine oil level is too low."

Sorry obviously didn't look properly. So basically I have a fault as I have already topped up with oil

Does your light go off when you turn on the Ignition.?

(That was what i read in your first post here.)

As the manual might say some place on some page.

Or do you have the Flashing light after the car has started and the engine is running?

Hopefully your post will get moved to the Octavia section or someone with one will be along.

It only comes on when ignition is on and carries on flashing. As soon as I turn the engine on it disappears

That sounds like a level indicator (or indicator fault). Check the oil level properly using the dipstick to establish which.

Gents ,know this is Fabia question ,but I'd imagine warnings are same on all models. I never let my oil fall below the halfway between limits mark and have never had an orange warning, far less a red one(Ignition on , oil lamp goes out) . But I've had MOT comments about low oil level ,and checking aftgerwards find all is well . My thinking is that no time has been given for iol to return after engine has been run .I've had this on one other car with RAC ,and with my daughter with AA. My case, car was parked half on pavement ,in other case, oil was checked just after switch off.

Cheapest was is to buy £9 Bluetooth OBD2 dongle on fleebay and torque android app (if you have android device) and check for DTC's. Incorrect oil pressure will kill your engine as some parts (the furthest away from the oil pump) will not be getting any lubrication. There are kits to check oil pressure - a hose with a manometer which screws into oil pressure sender socket - this takes ECU and sensors out of eqaution and tells you the real oil pressure in the engine.

Not sure if good engine oil flush (using special oil additive) would help to clear any potential oil pickup blockage problem without dismantling the bottom end?

I dont have a VRS so could be wrong on this but as long as I have been driving cars this has been the norm.

Switch on ignition and the oil pressure light will come on and stay on until you start the engine.

This is usually because the engine cannot produce pressure when it isnt running.

I may be wrong but is that what you mean?

Yes, but OP iswriting that the light blinks orsomething, which is not normal me thinks. It should light up and then go off.
