Octavia 2.0 TDI 4x4 140

Featured Replies

Hey guys I'm brand new to the forum and this is the second Octavia I have owned. I bought it a few weeks ago second hand and have been delighted with it. It's the 4x4 version which is going to be ideal for the Scottish highlands winter months.

I bought it in Birmingham and it drive all the way (500 miles) to my front door faultlessly.

However another 500 miles later and there is a squirmy rubber stretching like noise followed by a loud clunk every now and then on general slowing up through the gears. Had it up on ramps and can't see anything out of the ordinary, however today I have just tried to reverse into my drive which has a slight uphill gradient on it and it would not go it just sat and edged very slowly backward. Put it into 1st and it drives off fine. Back to reverse and no go on an uphill slope. Otherwise it reverses fine on the flat.

This has me baffled.

Does anyone have any experience of this and a solution(s) to this issue.

I assume its maybe to do with the 4wd haldex system perhaps. No faults/lights on dash. Drives faultlessly other than this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheer

Keith

Not got a clue I'm afraid but I would be thinking it's more likely to be the gearbox and would get it in to be looked at before something major went bang! Is it DSG or manual? Do the revs rise when you accelerate?

Welcome to Briskoda. :) Did you buy from a dealer. If so, I would look to the seller to sort out whatever the problem is.

Hi Keith,

Welcome to the site. Does not sound good on your car though. Is there a resistance in movement or is it purely sound?

I've personally not had that (owned 2 haldex 4x4), but my gut says it's internal, IIRC it's a hydraulic coupling. The sound you suggest and the symptom of reverse would have me going for the transmission. I'm not sure how sensitive it is to inclines, i.e. if it's trying to connect the rear transmission.

As per above, might be wise to investigate before the stretching sound becomes a popping sound. Fingers are crossed for you.

ps does it have esp?

Have fun in the snow.

ok so it gave up the ghost totally later that day and turns out the transfer box had a bearing collapse in it.

Next question is does anyone know if all the skoda\audi\vw\seat transfer boxes are compatible? i have the KDL gearbox and am struggling to find a transfer box second hand (new one is £1800) i found one for from a audi 3.2 quattro which looks the same but unsure about whether it would fit as the gearbox ratios etc will be different for a petrol than a diesel.

any ideas or anyone got a transfer box to fit a kdl gearbox in good condition for sale?

Any good http://www.ebay.co.u...=item4172e8b9b1

Petrol but I would think it may fit

Not sure if the ratios in the transfer box would be diffent, Im guessing only different in the actual gearbox

Cheers. Finally found the correct unit for my gearbox. Cost £525 delivered out of a 2012 yeti so pretty much as close to new as I could get. Saved £1300 over dealer price so happy enough with that. Just got to wait for it to arrive now

That is a really good result. Please us know when it is all fixed.

Thats a great result

Just out of interest how long did it take to remove it, on mine its taken the dealer 3.5 hours to remove the transfer box & Turbo, didnt think it would take that long

Can't seem to remove the transfer box. :((

Removed all 4 bolts that hold it to the gearbox and the 6mm Allen key inside the o/s output flange and all the brace bolts by o/a flange so everything Is loose and free but the brace is stopping it sliding off. Can't remove brace as o/s output flange is in the way and now on a vicious circle. Took 3 hrs of stripping so far to get to this point.

Now sorted if I have read the final post of the thread below correctly.
