So this is my new daily steed allowing my mk2 Golf and Polo out to pasture. Its a 130 tdi and is pretty grunty but I was wondering if anyone had mapped one and whether or not it was worth the extra wedge? Its on 133k at the minute but has been fitted with a new Skoda turbo unit and has hit every service on the nose according to the book. Its very tidy and i'm not sure whether to just leave it be. Any advice gratefully received

If that's a pre face lift mk1 it would be a 90bhp engine if its an LX or GLX, and 110bhp if its an SLX.

The 130 didn't get used for a few years after that.

My car check states 110bhp :)

I agree, the first thing I thought when reading this post is that the 130PD wasn't available back in the pre-face lift. So either it is a 110 (non-PD) mapped up to 130, or it has had an engine transplant.....

Not sure off the top of my head what the 110 is capable of with a remap (assuming it is in fact a 110), however I've had a revo map on my 130pd for just over 20k now and I've got to say I still find it impressive. Quoted figures for the 130 are 170bhp and 280 lbft, which is a noticeable increase - I remember thinking soon after the map that the acceleration was similar to being in the previous gear before the remap, ie torque/acceleration in 4th (post remap) was what it previously felt like in 3rd with the standard map.

The only down side is the increased torque can quite easily wear out the clutch at a much quicker rate than standard. Mine lasted for around 10k running with the remap until it started to slip, but the car had only done 70k at this point so the clutch was still in good condition before it was remapped. Is there record of the clutch being changed on your octy? If not i doubt it would last long with a remap if it's covered 133k on the original. I had a Sachs uprated clutch and pressure plate installed to deal with the extra torque, which cost a fair bit :/ I was prepared for it though and was one of the things i factored into the decision when i had it remapped.

Aside from replacing the clutch, I haven't had any problems or side effects what-so-ever from having the car remapped, and would recommend to anyone to have it done, as long as they realise the potential extra running costs it might incur in the long term.

At the end of the day it still makes me smile noticing the surprised looks on other peoples faces when they realise an oil burning 'taxi' can quite happily rear it's legs when it wants to!!

Or the person the OP bought it from has lied.

Or that. Guess we need an engine code to start the ball rolling. Hope we haven't ruined the OP day now!

I think the 110 maps nicely up to 130 at stage 1.

Rat's cobblers sorry I got my sausage fingers out meant 110, it is an SLX. I remember reading somewhere that map/ chip options were available up 149bhp (this is from VW circles and mk3 tinkering mind) and wondered if anyone had gone down this route

I think given Ogri's experience i'll leave it be. I've no record of any clutch change however does feel well sprung but no sense risking it. I bet yours is a hoot to drive with that power on tap? This one picks up very nicely but I can imagine you concerning some Beemer weeners with that!! My 170 Passat is brisk but the Octy being a good couple of hundred kilos lighter must tank it

Cheers for the advice folks, Was close to opting for a tdi Mk4 over the Octavia but think i've made the right choice :D

Has my 110 remapped from 113 to 146, don't know the torque of hand. Was mapped for 80k miles from 20k with no problems.

the clutch should be fine on a mapped 110 if you don't go crazy all the time.... as I say you will probably see around the 130 mark, and the 130PD doesn't eat clutches for breakfast out of the factory.
