Charging phone without using car

Featured Replies

I'm off does few days camping next week and my phone battery will be dead in a day or so.

Is it ok to charge the phone from the car battery without driving or will it drain the car battery sufficiently to risk it not starting (2012 Octavia)?

Thanks!

after 1/2hr the car will shut off power to the cigarette lighter anyway

Get down Maplins mate, solar chargers are as cheap as chips.

Solar chargers in Lidl from Thursday for £12.99

I bought one from Maplin last year, was about as good as a portion of chips at charging my phone. Got a replacement one, just as crap. The one I got was about £15, the more expensive ones may be better though.

You could try one of these stoves and cook dinner at the same time...

Some do, some don't.

The solar chargers do 'charge as fast as a power adaptor', but only when the internal battery in the charger is fully charged. Unfortunately, it can take 5 days to fully charge its internal battery.

A better bet is a power pack such as http://www.ebay.co.u...P-/360453042963 . This size will fully charge your phone 3 or 4 times.

I sometimes forget to unplug my car camera and it is still on the next morning.

Another vote for the Veho Pebble - it works very well.

My 58 plate vrs doesnt, my 56 plate caddy didnt.

To my knowledge, my '58 L&K doesn't either.

My 2007 stay live all the time.

I have literally never seen anyone mention that it cuts power after a certain amount of time. In fact most people's complaints are that it's permanently live.

I've (accidentally) left stuff plugged into mine (06 model) overnight and it's still been on the following morning (with no noticeable effect on battery).

Agreed, the Lidl one is 2000mah, and the internal battery can be precharged.

I'm getting one for night fishing as I find the HTC one x goes pretty flat on a 24hr session. If it gives me half a charge it will do me!

Both of my Octavias have stayed permanently live - no switch off after 30 minutes.

Charging a phone battery for a couple of hours a day will take 3/5ths of not very much at all from your car battery
