Carbon Build Up - cost for removal

Featured Replies

I believe Terraclean use two methods. One is a product into the fuel tank, the other is put directly into the intake manifold.

I recently had to have the water pump replaced on my 1.8tsi at 110,000km. This requires removal of the intake manifold.

While he was in there my tech romoved the airflow splitters in the intake & cleaned them & gave the inlet valves a squirt with decarbonising spray & a brush with his toothbrush (what dedication). It didn't make it squeaky clean but there was a difference in performance afterwards.

The carbon build up wasn't huge - maybe a few mm thick around the valve.

edit: Cost in total was AUD1300 including a full water pump housing for AUD 750 (VW parts are a ripoff here). Our techs charge about AUD121 per hour inc GST. The quick & dirty decoke added about $40 to the bill

Was this on a MkII Octavia 1.8TSI?, and if so was it the main water pump in the block or the small electric one for pumping coolant to the turbo?

As I've just been told that my water pump needs replacing, and that there is also some sort of boost issue and a problem with one of the runner flaps.

I'm thinking it could be a good idea to see if I can kill multiple birds with one stone..
