Urgent help! G60 Flywheel

Featured Replies

Hey guys, Just after a bit of advice. My clutch is on its way out, so going down the solid flywheel conversion route. I've Sourced the parts needed but have a problem with the flywheel. Two of the locating pins that house the clutch cover plate are slightly bent, one only just off by a fraction but the other you can see in the photos is bent to the outside. Is there anything I can do as the cover plate will not sit properly to bolt down.

Has anyone see this before? Could I heat the pins up and try to straighten them? Any help would be appreciated.

Gulp, Used flywheel.

Where / what is it from ?

A used solid flywheel will be absolutely fine since there is little to fail on it.

You can try straighten them or you can get them replaced at a machine shop which is what I'd do. Having said that loads of cars run without any locating pegs.

Yeah that what i thought, the pins only locate and serve no other job once bolted down. I'm just abit worryed how they got bent in the first place.

The dowel pins are easy to remove, just clamp the pin in the jaws of a decent vice, then give tne back of the flywheel a sharp blow with a heavy hammer, those dowels are about 70p from the vw dealer.

Great thanks, its not going to be head ache i thought is was.

Yeah that's why I said machine shop. I would never hit a flywheel with a hammer.

Dont be so soft ^^ how do you think machine ships get them out? Tickle them?

A puller. It sits on the face of the flywheel, you clamp it onto the pin and wind it out. No heavy hammers needed

yeah I've got a pin puller set like that, you'd never pull a pin from a flywheel with it though, not in a million years. The pin is far too short in vw flywheels to get a good grip on it. I've worked in engine repair machine shops, I was refacing at least 5 per day, I promise you it's easier to do them in a vice.
