Proposed Yeti configuration - please tear it to shreds

Featured Replies

Good spec. Rough road package is a few bits of plastic but I think also some of the hoses pipe work is uprated. TPM handy, DSG I have would never go back to manual but some prefer to change gear. Colour is so personal I don't like the red but I don't like red on any car.Whatever you go for I'm sure it will be love at first drive, on my second third one an L&K arrives soon. The facelift seems to be being put off and off and seems it will be just new lights and new bonnet badge and probally not till the spring 2014 so i've decided not to wait.

I have JUST been on the Skoda configurator & cannot see the 1.4Tsi engine for any of Yeti the Models!!!!!!!!!! :o

Does anyone know if this engine has been removed ?

As of this week the following engines have been removed:

E - Both engines

1.4 - S to Elegance

1.8 - SE to Elegance

2.0 110 4x4 - Elegance

I've just looked and it's still listed in the various sections including the price list.

The Skoda configurator is not known for it's reliability or accuracy. :wall:

So what's the replacement for the missing engines?

A 1.2 Petrol is all that's left on the green pump side?

You mean there is no petrol option other than a 1.2 now Lee?

Is this just on the configure your car online system or a run down of models prior to the facelift arriving?

If anyone thinks this is bad, Austrailia had a 1.2 front wheel drive and a deisel 4x4 with one engine option only!

I would guess that it is due to the facelift coming along.

The 'rationalization' is probably down to looking at what are the best selling engines and keeping them going whilst phasing out the others for the time being.

Of course, I could be a million miles off.

Interesting.

Isn't the facelift some time in November?

Even with the lead times on orders, 6 months seems a long time to suspend an engine type.

I have no hard facts, so could only use my own assumptions.

Maybe it takes a fair amount of time to set the production line up for a new car? Octavia 2 hatch was stopped around November with the new one 5 months after, and the same with the estate, due in June but stopped from ordering around the turn of the year IIRC.

Could possibly be tweaking the engines? I really don't know, pure (or poor) assumptions on my part.

More assumptions from me... Hopefully this could mean that the old 1.2 the Yeti currently gets will be replaced with the new version and the 122ps 1.4tsi replaced by the 140ps 1.4tsi unit and better still, the 160ps 1.8 getting replaced by the newer 180ps version. This is only supposed to be a facelift so it seems extreme to stop the production like this, so far in advance of the FL. it's not a new model replacement like the Octavia mk2 to mk3 was. Wonder what's going on....

I suppose the other alternative is they have an engine shortage in some other area of the VAG group?

Is something selling well and they are pinching engines from poor selling areas on other vehicles?

Hyundai and Kia did something like this when they brought out the Sportage an IX35 on top of each other.

The orders outstripped engine plant capacity so they started robbing engines destined for other vehicles.

Mind you it would seem odd to just do it on the 110 4x4 Elegance spec only.

A run down to a revised unit might be more likely as per Y_M above.

Did further check on the Configuator, the only models listed that have the 1.4 are - The Rapid SE with DSG only, & the new Octy SE & Elegance along with a chioce of With DSG or without .

I would like to see the official FL Yeti pics as looking to cut costs post August from 2 cars to 1 car, as SWMBO is the main user of a car for work as I WFH, The 1.8 would be a really nice to have, the 1.2 seems a bit small ( its prob all in the mind), & the 1.4 seemed to fit.

If the new Yeti is going to look like VW, then will prob have to look elsewhere :(

I would like to see the official FL Yeti pics...

There are none AFAIK, only fanciful speculations. Who knows when some official FL pics/specs might appear - maybe tomorrow, maybe 2014.

I would expect photos this year. My dealer told me the FL was due December, which I'm sure others have said as well.

But who actually knows? There might have been some vague intimation to dealers that late 2013 is a likely time-frame, but that doesn't presumably preclude a (further?) slippage of the timetable. I know I'm not adding anything useful to the conversation by saying this, but just seems to me that nothing can be assumed about an announcement date until it actually happens. Of course I think what we're talking about here is a release of reliable/official pictures and specs - rather than the speculations and imaginings that have appeared to date - and this could well precede actual availability of the FL model by some months. So yes it could happen tomorrow, but I guess autumn is more likely - is there a motor show in the Sept/Oct period?

In some ways, I'm not too unhappy that the specs announcement is not happening yet - it presumably allows time for production rates for some of the newer VW engines (cleaner and/or more powerful) and DSG gearboxes to ramp up. And similarly for other components. So it could be worth the wait, but just hope that I'm not indulging in any wishful thinking!

Senior Skoda sources have been quoted as saying the FL will be launched at Frankfurt.

Having said that, the Superb FL was to be launched at, IIRC, Shanghai but the official press release came ahead of the show (it may be as much to do with when the order book is closed on the current model. Press release & order book closure certainly seemed to coincide for the Superb - though I don't know which was the chicken & which was the egg)

Hmmm... '...new Yeti shown...at the end of 2013', and a new, bigger SUV '...in later years...'.

As per another thread, there's only ever been one petrol option for the Yeti here in France 1.2tsi - welcome to Europe :-)

Well, good - that's certainly more official than anything else I've seen posted here. Difficult to deduce from this exactly what's going to happen by the end of 2013 - the 8th model launch by Skoda this year (assuming that 'launch' means early availability thereafter) or that the FL Yeti will be 'shown' for the first time. I guess they've got an incentive to meet or or other of these criteria to get some kudos for doing eight in a year, but I certainly wouldn't rule out any slippage of this timetable or that 'shown' could just mean release of some photo's with release as MY15 for example.

But hopefully this is all too pessimistic (and indeed the trimming of the engine range would tend to suggest it is) and we can take it to mean that it will be possible to order a FL Yeti by the year end. Certainly hope so, otherwise I for one might end up in the position of needing to look elsewhere.
