Anyone own a Fabia 2 1.4 TDI 80?

Featured Replies

I'm viewing one on Friday but I need to get some figures together...

How much does a full tank of fuel cost, and on average how many miles do you get to a full tank?

At the moment it costs me £50 for a tank in my car and only lasts me about 200 miles.

My daily commute is a 30 mile round trip to work and back, which is mostly 70mph.

Just need to work out if it's worth the trade in... insurance is the same and tax would save me £230 every 12 months

Is that about 37 litres for £50, (8 gallons),

so you only get 25-26 MPG just now?

The Official Urban Figure for a Streetka is 26.6, they give a combined figure of 35 mpg.

At least the 1.4 TDi 80 official figure is 49.6 Urban & 61.4 mpg combined.

Hi, I used to have a Fabia 1.4 tdi and used to get easily 55mpg and up to 70 mpg. A tank used to last about 500 miles.

Cheers

And how much did a full tank cost? It's looking favourable...

Fuel prices change, so if its 40 litres you put in,

@ £1.38 a Litre thats £55.20 if you get 55 MPG for 9 gallons near enough = around 495 miles

45 litres @ £1.38= £62, 10 gallons near enough, 55 mpg = 550 miles

10 gallons @ 60 mpg = 600 miles

If all you get is the lowest figure for 'Urban' like you do with your Streetka.

10 Gallons @ £1.38 litre, = £62 , get 50mpg = 500 miles

Yep I agree

Had my 1422cc diesel PD80 for almost 5 years. Never had any problems and she returned between 54-58mpg all the time in normal running about in urban areas with some town work. Once I hit the open road and cruising at 60-65mph she returned 68-71mpg without trying too much. But 70mph reduced it to around 64-65mpg. On 'A' and 'B' roads it was easily possible to get 74-76mpg IN 4TH gear at around the 45mph mark if that's the speed the traffic was doing. 45mph is too slow for 5th gear and increases the fuel consumption. Never used 5th gear under 55mph and it's best to use it for cruising when you get to 60mph for best results. But it depends on where you live and what the topography is like, the load you carry, and of course the traffic conditions too. Once you learn how to drive one of these 3 pot engines, they are unbeatable in my book for economy. I know people with the Greenline that could not get the same mpg's as me, getting less that is than me. I rarely drove with economy in mind.

I own one. Had it about 6 months now. Such a good car, cannot fault it! Filling up just after the light comes on costs around £45 to £50. My commute is stop start so generally get 480 miles to the tank. Doing 70mph on long strips you willl easily get 55mpg+ and get about 550 miles to the tank. Only a 3 cylinder engine, hence the economy, but it does have enough torque and certainly shifts when you want it to. No issues with over-taking even when already at high speed.

Thanks for the replies that's exactly what I wanted to know! I'm going to have a test drive tomorrow morning (I'm a bit of a girl racer, it needs to shift when I want it to!) and see what deal they can do me. From what storm blue 2 said, it'll cost me about the same to fill up but I'll get more than twice as much mileage out of it!

If you dont get on with it, then ask if they have a 1.9tdi in stock... Same engine with another cylinder = more power..I will give you a word of warning however.. There is going to come a point when your sitting at the lights in someone with a monte.. Dependent on what engine the monte has, you could match it for speed. But the monte looks so much better and you will eventually exchange it for one. Which i will do in another 6 months time

This is to tie me over whilst we save for our house deposit. If I can save on my car running costs it means I have more to put away

Always wanted a Fabia 1.9tdi Sport but they are so rare now.I can,t find one anywhere :(

So, Janeyy? how did the test drive go?

Well... I loved it! Very comfortable, couple of cosmetic issues but nothing major (naff job on the back passenger arch, couple of small scratches) put my foot down in 4th (drove it as you said!) and it still pulls! Came up with a brake warning whilst out but it has been sat (poor thing was behind 3 other rows of cars :()

Guy agreed 12 months tax (as he said it's not worth arguing over £30 ;)) 12 months MOT and would give me £2k in p/x for my KA... couldn't budge him on the price as it's quite a good price already that he's advertising it for...

Now my only issue is HWMBO, I was set on getting a mk1 Fabia vRS and he convinced me to get the StreetKA and is a bit upset that I want rid. Don't get me wrong, it's fun to drive and in the (few rare) days of sunshine we do get it's lovely driving round with the top down, but it's just not economical at all and as we're saving for a house I need to save all the money I can. (And before any smart *rses say buying a new car isn't saving money, it'll save me around £75 - £100 a month, and £230 alone a year in road tax!)

So to summarise... love the car, love the drive, will save money, but I don't think I'd ever hear the end of it from the other half and he's already said it looks ugly :(

It's your car, so stuff what the OH thinks -tell him to start saving up for a Diahatsu Copen if that's his thing. Wish you all the best with the Fabia.

Well technically it's his car... I traded in my old Fabia for it (which funnily enough I saw in Asda today!) but he paid the rest and his name is on the log book :/ he said if I like it to get it now... arghh... decisions decisions! I'll be taking my dad to make sure it's definitely sound before signing anything...

I presume you guys would have to put in some extra cash (or take out more finance) in addition to the p/x value to buy the Fabia? Worth doing the sums to see how long it would take to claw that money back with the fuel savings. I.e if you have to put a couple of grand in to the deal to get the Fabia its gonna take you maybe a couple of years to get that money back via the fuel/tax savings before it starts being an advantage. Might be worth putting that cash straight into the deposit fund now.Even if you are able to make a true saving of 75-100 per month that's chicken-feed in the world of house-deposits....

Sorry to sound so negative but I'm with your HWMBO on this one!

Just out of interest, what price is the car advertised for? Also, what spec, miles, colour, options ect?

I have one as a second car (well my dad uses it more than me) but it is great fun to drive and quite fun. I do like driving it as much as my vRS and that is saying something!
