Exhaust Backbox - Doh!

Featured Replies

Hi Guys!

I own a 2005 Skida Fabia vRS which I have had since new and recently the backbox got picked up on MOT as being fairly knackered which I already knew because it looked in a right mess.

Stupidly I decided to go with a new independent garage for the fitment as the Skoda main dealer wanted £220 and instead of going for a Skoda OEM exhaust I went with a non oem one for £145. Why I didn't think about this I don't know but I got the car back today and it just looks really crap.......now I'm not sure if it's made worse by the fact it sits a little more away from the rear bumper but it just doesn't look the part at all.

A couple of questions as I don't really know much about exhausts (which is probably why I'm in this pickle  )

Is there much adjustment in the end position of the pipes?

if that's still doesn't make it look right and I go and get a different garage to fit an OEM one or something performance based. What can I do with the old one as I can't see anyone wanting it for their vRS. Would it fit an ordinary Fabia? Worth much as scrap metal?

I could smack myself one for not thinking straight but it's a bit late for that now.

I know I am a numpty before anyone says.......

Won't be worth anything as scrap probably less than a quid. If I was you I'd try and ask the garage to take it off and refund you. I'd say it's knocking or looks bad and take it away with no back box on if they've chucked yours and go to powerflow or something and get a custom one put on

plenty second hand vrs back boxes on ebay and the for sale section recently could you get them to put one of those on for you ?

Today whilst driving it further for the first time I noticed a burning smell in the cabin. When I got to my destination I realised it seems to be coming from underneath the car. It also did the same on the way home. I phoned the garage and they said it was normal and will be from the fluid they put on the exhaust to stop it rusting, is that true? or am I being told a load of baloney? Also the handbrake now seems incredibly loose (it wasn't like that before either...... )

I'm having the service done next week by the main dealer I should have gone to in the first place and have asked them to look at this exhaust.
