Headlight bulbs - Advice needed...

Featured Replies

So I've always loved the natural white light that is emitted from headlights, but my assumption has been the only way to do this is by fitting an HID kit.

Are you able to fit LED bulbs to your standard headlamps, for your side lights and main/full beams? And would the result be the same/similar?

I fitted some Osram Nightbreaker Plus H7 bulbs to my car the other day, and generally seems less yellow and an improvement in visibility too. That would be a cheap and easy solution. You can get the H3 bulbs for main beam and fog lights too, but I haven't changed these. I am also yet to change the side lights too.

Yes going for a HID kit might be worth it, but it depends on how much money and effort you want to place into this.

Is it ok to fit a hid kit to non-xenon headlights as long as its alligned correctly??

Technically it is illegal. Equally so for LED sidelights.

Cite needed. Note that the letter that is usually trotted out on these occasions specifically says "should" at the relevant points, and is therefore a recommendation and not a statement of law.

It's because they are not type approved. As to LED sidelights, I've yet to see any that are e-marked, which is a requirement also. I am not trying to say that you will immediately get pulled and have your car crushed, far from it since there are fewer police cars on the road, but you are breaking the law by fitting them. As long as they don't dazzle me, I don't really care if others install them but I will not.

If you want to legally fit HIDs then you can buy the manufacturer's genuine kit.
