Accelerator Delay

Featured Replies

There seems to be a fault developing with my car :(

When I go to accelerate, occasionally there's a delay of 2-4 seconds before it registers the fact I'm wanting to accelerate.

Any ideas?

Is it registering any fault codes? Any sensors giving dubious feedback? TPS or MAF for instance?

With my cheap eBay scanner it's not showing any codes.

I was flooring it in 3rd gear before ad the whole car stumbled too like a sudden loss of power for less than a second then off again.

Turbo hoses, fuel filter springs to mind.

Fuel filter was replaced only 12,000 miles ago.

Have had a listen under the bonnet can't hear any hissing will have a proper look.

I had a clogged air intake a few years back. It also gave the same symptoms.

Oh poo, going up a hill today it did it again, no power at all. It's not like there's no turbo, the car just wasn't acknowledging the fact that the accelerator was planted.

Then about 15 seconds later boom, car flew at full boost.

Very irritating, I'm concerned it'll get me into trouble when I need power.

Dodgy MAF sensor can do that. Unplug, see if the car drives better, if yes replace.

Is that the sensor on the intake to the left of the engine?

Yes

Thanks.

its worth giving the maf a good clean first rather than buying a replacement.

your going to need a 5 point security torx bit to remove the maf sensor from its housing and then either some maf cleaner or what i personally use isopropyl alcohol as it cleans and dries super fast without leaving any residue.

throw the sensor in a small bag, fill with isopropyl alcohol so sensor is submerged and give it a good shaking. job done..worked for me.

Or maybe dodgy throttle position sensor... if you have vcds then log driver demand as you drive along, see if driver demand goes up when throttle depressed... if not, that is your answer. Failing that, decoke VNT nozzles first

strange enough today ive just suffered from the same issue. i was flooring it and all of a sudden the car bogged down.! so i dropped it down a gear to see if it would pick up again but it just seemed pretty flat.

before this happened i could hear the turbo whistle slightly but now its a more silent whistle, and the car doesnt pickup speed as sharp as it did before.

ive also noticed on idle that my revs stay up for a little longer whereas before i would blip the throttle the revs would rise and drop as soon as i lifted off the gas.

im going to check to see if ive maybe popped a boost hose.

in the meantime im wondering if anyone has a boost circuit diagram with part numbers for all the boost hoses..??

edit: i think ive found a diagram for the superb boost circuit and hoses, but could someone confirm its correct as from looking at the image it looks like its base on a passat (b5).?

Turns out it was a faulty boost actuator? Whatever that is! And a damaged wire leading to the MAF.

Where did you source the actuator from.?

Where did you source the actuator from.?

Don't know my cousin is sorting it for me.

I Havent had a chance to look into my issue yet, the same bog down happened again yesterday while simply cruising at around 55mph.

what i have noticed today is that when i rev the engine/blip the throttle im hearing a hissy sound coming from what sounds like the passenger side, this is leading me to believe i may have an issue with or around the intercooler.??

You could ask the mechanic if it's the boost actuator? The hissing sound should be the air conditioning. I have the same thing when stopping the car and a friend also has that sound.

Regarding the hissing sound, does yours hiss just after you lift off the accelerator just after giving it a quick press? this is the only time i am hearing the noise.

No i thought you meant, when the engine is parked and turned off. If you hear any hissy noises driving/accelerating it's one of the turbo hoses that has come loose or is leaking.

any ideas on the best way to get to the hoses that are fitted to the intercooler? can theses be replace from underneath the car?

im assuming there are only 2 hoses around here, 1 into the intercooler and one exiting the intercooler.?

part numbers anyone? as im sure ive read that one hose is only specific to the superb and the rest are the same as the passat etc.?
