Juddering under braking

Featured Replies

Hi all.

My vrs has just developed a juddering when braking normally. I had grooved discs and mintex pads fitted a few months ago and all has been fine. Ive done a few 1000 miles so shud be worn in. Just had a new steering rack fitted from the TT (the quick rack). Im not 100% if it was doing it before the rack was changed but could this be the cause? I used the track rod ends that came on the rack as they felt fine and look nearly new. Everything is most definitely tight as I triple checked it all. After the rack was fitted I got the tracking done again.

What could I check?

Cheers :-)

Hey Kriss,

Is it only under braking that the juddering happens? or does it start speed like 50-70mph as well. I would have thought initially that one of or both the discs have warped (and I can happen with low miles covered).

Alternatively, if you can remove and clean both discs and pads and make sure there aren't any contaminates on either. If you still have the original discs fit them again, and take it run to eliminate your upgrades being gubbed

Its just under braking mate. It is possible as they have had alot of hard braking on the back lanes ect from 80/90mph down to 30 for corners. May have to do the stop start hard breaking fix after work today to see if it cures it.

Hmm in that case I would say you've accidentally warped a disc

Google about how to bed brakes in, if you are going to drive it hard then bed them in hard.

seen a lot around here, People dont bed them in propperly for hard driving and they warp the first time they drive hard.

Just read another post on here and their tie/ track rods had gone. With me fitting a different rack and it only occurred after that could this be the case?

Yeah, but I would have replaced them as a matter of course whilst everything was stripped. I take it the problem as progressively got worst?

Probably me?

Before you do anything jack the car up and check for play in any of the wheels, as soon as I did this it was dead obvious there was a non brake related problem (funnily enough I've not long put front discs on myself).

If there's play it's just a case of inspecting all the bushes etc to find out what's worn
