Gear holder Change - Hose Clip/Jubilee Clip?

Featured Replies

I'm changing over the gear holder on my Octy vRS MKII, but I can't seem to find a part number for the hose clip/jubilee clip that fastens it on.

Had a look in halfords and homebase, but the one's they provide appear to be way too thick & the incorrect size.

Does anyone know the official part name or part number that I need?

Gear holder.

What's that then?

Many different types of clip on the market.

Gear Holder / Gear Knob

Still lost there. Gear knob is simply screwed to gear stick and no idea where a hose clip comes into it.

I replaced a gaiter on a Passat gear stick a few years ago and that was simply fixed with a cable tie.

The gear knob clip is easily replaced with a tie wrap and will hold no problem. Assuming you mean the stainless metal clip that actually holds the gear knob on the end of the gear lever.

You can also reuse the old clip if you are careful taking it off.

This post is just what I've been looking for

My gear knob is slightly loose and I can't tighten it up as it appears the jubilee type clip holding the knob to the 'toothed' section of the lever has just loosened over time

What is my best option - try to get a genuine replacement clip or tie wrap it? The objective is not to have the gear knob move at all from side to side when you are changing gear

a tie wrap will do it or you can pick up a new jubilee clip from a harware store for a few pence. i did the latter when i bought my audi gearstick and its not budged since i fitted it months ago.

no point trying to source an orignial clip as you need a specific tool to do it up again i belive

i've swapped a few gear knobs over - just re-use the old clip.  i used a tile cutter to tighten it up again, but as above, you could use a jubilee clip too.

Thanks for the replies. I did bugger about with a jubilee clip for some time but just couldn't get it on tight enough to make any difference

I've gone with wrapping enough insulation tape around the stick so that when you put the gear knob on, the plastic four pronged attachment is pushed over the 'lump' of the insulation tape so it holds better

Next up is trying to sort my remote locking. Remote key fob flashes when pressed but doesn't lock the car. I'm assuming the battery is ok if its making the led flash and I've tried pairing as per the owner manual but no success. I don't want to have to pay Skoda £69 to find out what the issue is. I'd rather narrow it down if I can so I can make a call on whether it's worth the outlay to get it sorted or we just lock and unlock the car manually!
