Mixing Tyre Sizes

Featured Replies

Can you mix a 225/r17 with a 205/r16 tyre on the same axle???:drive1:

Only if we are talking about the temporary use of a spacesaver wheel in which case speed and distance restrictions apply, and handling may well be compromised.

wheel has to be painted bright orange and clearly marked temp wheel with max speed 50 mph btw this is an mot failure even if it's an offical space saving tyre.

Par, do not do it. As the wise ones  have said, it is potentially very dangerous. OK if you really are stuck ie puncture but get it sorted ASAP.

Its just my new Superb has come with 4 17" alloys fitted with 225's and a 16" steel spare with a 205 tyre!

Not good if I get a puncture!:(

Can't be right..go back to dealer -- even if it was fitted with a collapsable space saver ala Audi A2 - it still has to come out at same diameter.

Very definately a no go -- get it sorted ASAP

After much research I have established that this 205 r16 is marked up as a space saver, it also is included in the handbook that 17" alloys have a 16" space saver. This is Legal as the wheel and tyre are meant for emergency only.

I wish skoda had pointed this out in the brochure as I may well have not gone for the 17" wheels.
