VRS missing something?

Featured Replies

Hello all.

My little skoda VRS recently came up with service indicator. I reset because there was oil and filter change done a month before. I have noticed it just doesn't have as much "punch" as it used to. I can't confirm it coincided with the service indicator but seems to have happened recently since. I just cannot put my finger on it but is just not as impressive as it used to be. I hope to god its nothing serious but will probably have my local garage check it out at the same time as the squeeky front brakes.

Does anyone have any ideas, I know I'm not being super specific but it used to throw me back in the seat on acceleration but not not so much. This was truly one of the reasons I bought the car. I'm not saying its not quick and there is no stuttering but just doesn't have the bang for as much buck.

Its 2005 with 63k. Timing belt done at 53k.

Any advice truly appreciated. My only idea was getting it plugged into a diagnostic and see if any error codes.

Looking through service history it has really only had oil and filter changes regularly every year.

Tis a bit worrying as the car was so impressive when I got it around a month ago and paid fair money for it.

Thanks everyone. My local garage are not skoda but I just want some pointers before I book it in.

get a friend or some one who doesnt regularly go in your car and take them for a spin .... it might be that youve just got used to it and youll see by how they react ... if you see them swaying backwards as you floor it you know the old girl still has it

Yeah good point but on motorway I notice overtaking isn't the breeze it used to be.

not sure then ? maybe a slight boost leak? lol listen for whistles

Can you tell if it's smoking any more than usual? If not get someone to follow you to check. If it is, it's probably a leak in boost pipework.

But as you say, it could simply be your getting more used to the car. A nice software upgrade can change that. ;)

All though mines an Octavia i think i,ve just got used to the power and think there is something wrong.

Maybe worth checking the MAF.Unplug it and see if it runs any better. If it does then thats the culprit.Air filter also worth checking and as said you may have a small boost leak somewhere.

Good luck :)

How easy do you think this would be to diagnose. also I don't know what MAF is. thanks.

Maf stands for mass air flow sensor. If you follow from your airbox, it is plugged into hose about halfway along.only thing there so easy to spot and unplug.
