Amundsen+ Map Updates query

Featured Replies

Hi

Apologies for yet another Amundsen+ map update thread! Off to France for a road-based holiday in 3 weeks (can't wait to get my Fabia via the Millau Viaduct to the Med coast!) and have been wondering about map updates before I go.

When I asked my dealer at my one-year service last November they didn't have any updates. I'm on version 0038 (which is v3), and from Googling I've found that the latest maps out are version 0050 (version v4).

What I can't find is anywhere that actually has the maps for download (or even purchase!). Found this site:

<mod edit. Link to copyright infringing website removed>

but not sure if it is relevant or not.

Cheers

Rob

Remove link to site offering illegal software

Seems to be for new generation navis (Leon 2013, Octavia3,....) (see navi images with glossy black panel)

If someone tested on RNS315/amundsen+/Mediasystem2.2 can post here results.

my dealer told me I'm on the latest maps which is v3 about 2 weeks ago. be interesting to see if these work!

Yes, if someone can test and, if it works, give some instructions I'd be very pleased :)

Not sure what version of map I'm on but my 2013 fabia came with a map pack that is missing the A46 dual carriageway upgrade (Newark to Widmerepool) that has been completed at least a year and was planned/being built for many many years (So it is hardly a suprise and easy to forecast!)

How are the maps updated and how frequently? for something that is physically integrated with the car I would have though upgrades of software would be regular seeing as we have no option to replace it with another model as you can with a portable unit. (which get frequent updates anyway!)

Mike, the way to check your map version is to hold the SETTINGS button down to access a hidden menu.

I will have a look on the way to work tomorrow ... I don't know if I can be bothered to go through the whole process of moaning about it and trying to get it sorted. On Audi's you have to buy a new DVD at an extortionate price ... I'm guessing Skoda will charge for the updates too.

Looked into this abit. I actually have an RNS310 and had V3 maps loaded. Apparently according to the dealer these were the latest maps. However V4 and the all new V5 maps are now released.

I upgraded to V4 not by using the link posted, my SD card is too small. However a quick google search on RNS310 V4 Maps will point you in the right direction to obtain a cd. Simple to upgrade, all you need to do just pop the CD in and ether run the maps on the CD or install on the SD card for upgrade goodness.

V5 2013 maps are now not delivered by CD upgrade and are pre-loaded and locked down to the SD card that is shipped to you. I looked around for prices and it can be purcahsed for around 200euro's ( :whew: ), however RNS315 isn't compatable with this... not sure how the RNS315 will recieve updates in the future. Please correct me if i am wrong :wall:

OK silly question time - how do I tell whether I have got an RNS310 or an RNS315?

I think the RNS315 has a built in flash drive. If you can pull out the SD card and still run sat nav, i suspect it is a RNS315

Ah, OK, thanks. My unit didn't come with an SD card (or a map CD for that matter!) so I guess it's an RNS315. Does this mean I have no way of upgrading to even V4 via the suggested Googling route?

from what i have read, no the RNS315 cannot be upgraded at the moment until a update for the specific model has been released. don't hold me to that though.

Ah well.I'll just have to wait and ask at my annual service in November if the new ones are out then.

Please do not discuss or post links to websites offering counterfeit software, this is against the terms and conditions of Briskoda.

The only official source of map updates is your local dealer, try a VW dealer since the Amundsen+ is basically a rebadged VW unit and the maps are interchangeable.

The difference between V3 and V4 will be marginal, and the V3 will be perfectly fine for sometime to come. I am still using a 2005 navigation disc in my Audi, and it gets me from A to B with no fuss, this despite there being a 2013 one available.

Perhaps if they sold the updates at a reasonable price they might sell more of them and actually make MORE profit and keep their customers happier ... an alien concept I am sure. Or perhaps in the same way your ECU software is updated to the latest standards they could update your maps when you bring your car in to dealer for a service ... would be a good reason for people to stick with dealers when they are outside of the warranty period.

For a previous car I bought genuine Audi DVD from Germany (via Ebay) it was much cheaper than available in UK and activated the TMS service (which is pretty useless). Not sure if this is an option with the software upates. I also had to buy myself (good excuse) a VAGCOM lead (also genuine!) to unlock the DVD drive ... it is almost like they want to make life difficult and extort as much money as possible from us. Oh wait ... they do.

Link posted by Skogar is the official update (legal) for 3rd generation radios.

I've tested on a RNS315 (2nd generation), and It doesn't work.

As de compet has pointed out, my link was perfectly legal, and was found via a reputable German web site.

Perfect isn't the word I'd use! I agree with Mike that I'd happily pay a reasonable amount for updates, if only given the chance!

It would appear that the RNS315/Amunsden+ upgrade is on the backburner, I have discussed this with another member at length and even his dealer bailed out once he started questioning was it the right upgrade.

my tomtom from late 2012 is missing the a46 upgrades too.

We are discussing the link posted earlier in the backroom, there is the possibility it is actually legit so apologies for removing it earlier in the thread.

Here it is again, and I'll leave it be for now.

However the updates appear to be for the latest generation of Columbus and Amundsen+ as featured in the new Octavia. The updates require a SD Card to load them, which we all know is not possible on the older generation of Columbus. The maps appear to be part of a new "Skoda Mapcare Update Policy" for the later generation units.

Been in touch with Skoda customer service and they seem to be trying to sort it out. They are checking to see what the latest available map is and if there isn't a later one I should get a new one when available. Not much help for those with older cars ... but nice to know that Skoda UK do listen when you ask a question.

still not sure if I found the map version, I can find the software version ... which is something along the lines of 0324 but no mention of map. I also changed my keyboard to qwerty and changed the routing to fast rather than economical at the same time while I was digging around in the menu's.

It would be great if something came of this, as there are only two things that niggle me about my Skoda. One is the lack of the map updates. (The other is how daft I was to let my wife persuade me I didn't really need an MFSW!).
