I have just wasted £30 on a 4tress lock which doesn't fit my Citigo! So I can put my dirty old yellow Stoplock on, buy something else, or go without. What would you do?

The old stoplocks are more or less useless IMO. If someone wanted to nick your citygo they need the key, without it they're stuffed unless they tow it away. stoplocks were designed before FF engine immobilisers became the norm where the main security feature was the steering lock and they can get the stoplock off in under 10 seconds- a swift hacksaw through the wheel and it slides straight off.

to be honest, modern cars with immobilisers are too difficult for the average scrote to try and nick without the keys, more likely to break a window and nick something out the car which the steering lock thing is not going to stop (its actually more likely to annoy you first)

a stopcock is a really handy lever for breaking the steering lock on older cars, then as above you just cut it off, then drive away.... modern cars ain't gonna go anywhere without the keys so I wouldnt worry yourself about it, unless you are one of those folks that keeps a spare key inside the car.

I have one of those for my '89 Scirocco. It needs it though, because it's so easy to hot wire. With the immobiliser on the Citigo it is the keys that you need to protect!

I saw the owner of a quite new and expensive looking Merc removing such a lock off his steering wheel yesterday. My thoughts were, doesn't he trust the alarm immobilser etc of his fine machine.

Chances are if someone wanted his car, they would just appear with a flatbed, fluorescent jacket and a clipboard and drive off with it without anyone paying the slightest bit of attention. Either that or a laptop, I was horrified by someone I knew who just bought a BMW and showed off a feature where they unlocked it using their phone across the internet.

The only person likely to steal a Citigo is someone specifically looking for one.

In which case there is not a great deal you can do. But a Disklok is a good deterrent.

Anyone with the right tech can take a car in under 5 minutes, so anything that makes them look for an easier target is good.

For all the advancements in car security there must be a way round them for the dealers.

And this equipment can be found in the hands of others.

As I said, they need to be looking for the car, not an oppertunist thief.

Agreed...I bought one for each car and used them regularly in the past and would still use one if going to a dodgy area. If nothing else, it (in my mind at least) sends a message that you're aware of the presence of scrotes and would like to make life harder for them..........hopefully they will pass on to the next car in the row. They certainly aren't defeatable by electronic devices and an angle grinder would make a bit of noise getting through one.

I do recall the original StopLocks had poor reputations for strength/usefulness. I also have, one in each car, the original AA / Halfords / Longarm High Security Steering Wheel Bar and they are extremely quick and easy to fit and very visible and they would, in extremis, cause a nasty bump on the back of the head if wielded in the direction of someone with evil intent....but this is a matter of debate, I'm sure.
