Locking Wheel Nuts...

Featured Replies

Bit of a daft question but do new cars still come with locking wheel nuts? In particular New octavias? :-p

Something I never thought to look for on collection, but I don't seem to have them if I'm supposed to.

I seem to remember reading in the brochure that they were included?

Looked at equipment page on octavia web page via skoda site, reads "with security bolts" after the alloy wheel type and size. A call to the supplying dealer, perhaps?

Going to sound a complete idiot here but on further inspection it would seem I do have locking wheel bolts.

The nut is ever so neatly hidden away in the tool kit in the boot and I hadn't noticed it, couple that with the fact the bolt covers look so realistic I just assumed I didn't have them fitted.

Only problem i've got now is how do you get the bolt covers off without using a pair of grips? Would have thought there'd be a little tool to remove them in the tool kit but nothing seems to fit

^^^^ +1 on the tweezers for the caps.

They come with all cars, irrelevant of spare or not - they're a bu66er to get off otherwise

I added the full size spare wheel option so I've got a foam insert inserted into that with screwdrivers, jack etc (standard stuff) but can't say i've seen one of those in there.

I'll take another look but I suspect it'll be another thing to add to the dealers list of missing items ;)

Anyone have info for these covers in respect of the fact there are two types 16 normals and 4 locking ones just that "and I know it may sound stupid", am sure you can get them in different colours and finishes and am considering if they fit, using the same gloss black ones that where fitted to my wife's old fabia vrs but don't want to end up buying a full set of bolts and caps like I did when trying to source them a couple of years ago when trying to replace a couple of lost /stolen ones genuinely think I was robbed by dealer but maybe that's the only way you can get them???

Getting a different set of wheels and defo think the black covers will work better depending on price may have other plans as we'll

Any info part numbers gratefully appreciated

All I can contribute is that the dealer destroyed those on my Mk2 by using a too aggressive wheel cleaner as part of the servicing "valet", and those on wifes Fabia have been ruined (twice) by using automatic car washes which seem to have the same acid rain (she won't listen!).

I know that you should avoid certain types of cleanin methods,  but in my opinion these bolt covers are cheap and nasty plastic and barely fit for purpose. Personally I would save my money.

Apart from loosing a couple either with falling off by not being put on correctly by myself, tyre fitter or dealer not sure, or my other thought of theft !

I really can't say that av noticed much in the way of deterioration in them !

But thanks for the advice I tend to not use acidic wheel cleaners as know how aggressive it can be!
