Strange DSG issue TSi vRS

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Driving the Octavia tonight in manual in 6th gear, approached a sharp turn and let the box shift down on its own to 3rd.

Coming out of the other end of the corner, I accelerated gently and the engine revved it's nuts off as if it was in neutral, ie no drive. I slowed down to a stop without touching the paddles or the gearbox (still in manual). I then set off again and all was well for the rest of the journey.

Anybody else experienced this? Or any explanation for the problem?

Thanks,

Stuart.

When you say in manual, do you mean you had the gearstick over to the side, or just that you had over-ridden the D setting by using the paddles?

Not sure if it changes down (on the move) when in full manual mode. Just when stopped.

Full manual mode, with the gear selector over to the left.

I didn't use the paddles to change down, instead the gears just counted down 6, 5, 4 then 3 (with no rev matching, I guess it just puts the clutch in and then selects whatever gear is right at the time) and then when I accelerated it was as if it was in neutral, didn't have a gear selected or that the clutch was out.

DSGs as you know can have their little quirks now and again i'd just keep an eye on it. If it does keep doing that though could be a sign of a mechatronics problem.

I was going round a very tight bend at the time.

Just found on the audi forums, about there being a manufacturing fault where the dsg filler insert was the wrong size and the oil level was wrong, meaning dsg lost drive in sharp corners when the oil shifted.

In reality there is no "full manual mode" - as soon as the revs reach 800-1000rpm it changes down. Bloody annoying when you slow down for a roundabout and are a little late changing 3 to 2. Gearbox does it for you, then you change down too meaning you are in first and the damned thing stands on its nose!

Also whereas a manual hits the engine rev limiter, a DSG in manual will change up a gear.

Right Stu I have had a problem not unlike yours. The result was the DSG box couldn't fing a gear and effectively I simply revved the engine when trying to progress as if I was in neutral. The D indicator disappeared from the maxidot readout.

I'm no technician but it was explained to me there was loss of pressure in the gearbox due to a gearbox oil leak. As the oil was congealing on the dripdtray below the engine there was no trace of this. These faults showed up on the diagnosis computer.

I also had metal filings int he leakage so the diagnosis was t replace the contol unit and the gearbox! Thankfully under warranty!

I doubt if you've got my problem but you might check under the engine for the signs of a leakage as you have found a known fault due to oil levels/pressure etc.

Hope this helps!

Cheers mate, will see if anyone can do a VCDS scan for me.

Stu, either way mate, I hope you get it sorted!

This just happened to me again today, whilst crossing into a junction on a busy 50 MPH road.

Dangerous to say the least.

Further Google searching seems to name this issue as false neutral which appears to be being resolved by dsg software updates or mechatronic replacements.

Time to ring the dealers.

Well, this issue has happened a few times since, so it is booked in at the dealers this Monday.

WIll keep you guys updated.

Stu

Just a thought. You probably have 6 speed DSG so your problem is most likely to be completely unlinked to my troubles.

Still I'd like to know that you've had it fixed to your satisfaction.

I'll keep watching .

Just been informed that after contacting Skoda UK for a solution, a software update has been applied to the gearbox. Will have to see how it goes.
