Rough value of a second hand Ko3s

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just looking for some advise, long story short is my original Ko3s started to leak and I established that the oil seals had failed, so I went and fitted a brand new Ko3s. I then cleaned and inspected the old one for cracks and play and all seemed well, I thought about sending it off to go hybrid but I imagine that road could get expensive. Anyway someone asked to buy my old turbo and I wondered how much it would be worth??

Dan

Out of interest how did you diagnose the seals. I'm using lots of oil and am wondering if its the seals.

The symptoms i had was oil usage, black fluid spitting out of the exhaust! Checked for leaks elsewhere and everything led back to the turbo which was confirmed by R-tech. Then when removed there was oil inside :(

How much oil were you using roughly, any smoke at all from exhaust, did you have a few black spots on the bumper above the exhaust ???

Edit.. A few more, did your MPG drop at all and did the performance take a hit at all

Well i was checking and topping up every 2 weeks or so and using around 1/2 to a cup full of oil, i had an endless supply of free oil from work and alot of funny looks :wonder: but alot of concern. There was abit of smoke but I have a decat so wasnt 100% but it did kick dirt out on start up. Mpg was difficult to tell to be fair as the car isnt standard, and performance wise i would say it may well have been effected a little. defo felt better when i had the new turbo fitted but my bank balance didn't  .

This sounds abit like mine . Mines started to use oil but no-where near as much as you . Id say about 3mm on the dipstick every 2-3 weeks . No smoke on start up , no blue smoke when going along . My mate said It did kick out some black smoke like soot when I was in 3rd and gave it some beans . I have hardly no black spots on the back of the bumper . Only think is I smell oil when its hot waiting at the lights like its burning on the exhaust . When I fitted the TIP I could see any noticeable leaks but I wasn't looking for any ,
