Wing mirror

Featured Replies

The glass in my drivers side wing mirror has suddenly come lose, so lose it fell of in my hand!

It looks like the glass/mirror has actually delaminated from teh backing plate, there is is no sign of sitcky tabs having been used, all that I'm left with is a dark grey plastic plate.

Am I correct in assuming that this plastic plate pops off from the mount behind, so all I need to source a new heated mirror with the plate on and pop it back on?

Yes, you just prise it out carefully, unfasten the wires for the heating element and put the new one back in putting even pressure on the mirror, mostly in the middle, not the edges as it will crack in half and you will swear and have to buy another one. Guess how I know that? :)

Thanks, I'll nip down to the car shortly and check what kind of mirror it is and then take a click to eBay.

Well obviously you wouldn't have made the mistake yourself, so I can only assume it was watching someone else?! ;)

Same thing happened to me, just shut drivers door and mirror fell out ! Never had that happen on a car before ! Seems that the heating of the glass caused the double sided sticky to give up.

Question, "prise it out carefully" do you tilt the mirror to get at clips ? do you lever the backing plate from top or bottom - seems fixed in the middle and flexible at edges. Does the back plate have the heating element ?

Replacements on Ebay for £11.99 (I think)

I prised it out at the sides with a screwdriver. You may be able to lift off the whole mirror casing to make it easier. I could do that on the Polo easily. The heating element is on the backing plate.

Move the mirror using the controls and it will pull off. Mine went a few weeks ago, eBay was great service too
