Xenon headlight bulbs Issue

Hope someone can help me out here.

One of my Xenon bulb changed colour over time (as expected) so failed MOT recently.

I brought some cheap HID bulbs off ebay and fitted them last night, 35W D2S type.

When I turn them on, it would flicker once for a split second and then off again. The bulb failure warning light would come on in the dashboard. Next I tried leaving the light switch on for about 5 seconds and then off and on again, it will then illuminate as normal and the warning light would disappear. I assume these bulbs require longer charging time or maybe new bulbs need bedding in? Would this fail MOT because of the longer charging time and skewed way of operating it?

Previous bulbs were Osram ones and then turn on as expected: couple of second to reach full brightness. Would a different brand bulb affect it's operation, even though it rated the same?

I don't know anything about HID until this issue arrived. I brought the car second hand and it had HID headlight fitted by the previous owner.

Thanks for all comment/advise given.

being the d2s type i guess its been correctly retro fitted into a projector housing?

It sounds like the bulbs you bought aren't any good tbh. Considering they are around the £100 mark per bulb on most bulb sites I wouldnt want to be paying too little

yes it's in a projector housing, sits inside what looks to me a dome len.

I will be buying the exact Orsam ones but my biggest concern is failing MOT tomorrow. Won't have enough time to get them fitted before next week.

Make sure that they are connected up properly. The D2S connector in the Fabia can be a bit of a pain to get right.

If its definitely the bulb, I'd suggest binning them, and getting a pair of these: http://www.powerbulb...2s-85122-single

Cheap xenon bulbs can be nasty sometimes..
