Well I never would have guessed my post would have generated so much debate. I think people are right about French cars I did not fancy any of them. It just took me by surprise when I was in a car fair with hundreds of cars to chose from that I looked at passat, A6 etc and I saw this and noticed the build quality was great. Worth a punt I thought. I do not regret it. You are right though a Luxo euro barge cruiser is what it is. Until I can get my second car with only 2 seats (midlife crisis looming) this will do fine.

Btw I have been on here since I bought the octavia in 2006. I had to create a new a count for reasons I can't remember and I have alway really enjoyed the forum. Intolerant people excist everywhere and I was beginning to think briskoda had changed but the balanced response of other members has restored my faith. Have a nice weekend all.

  • Which is a surprise considering how quickly modern Peugeots start falling apart! Good luck with the new car.

5 days of ownership and I have not even had to refill the tank. This car is amazing. Chill daveyboy life is too short. You see, the cars relaxed driving and stunning looks have made me come over all d

(the Citroen C1 that the wife has is a rebadged Toyota)

That's not really how it works. :) The C1 (and Aygo/107) is the result of a Citroën/PSA joint venture. They're all produced in the same factory in the Czech Republic. The petrol engine is a Toyota (or Daihatsu, rather) unit, while the diesel is sourced from PSA.

"It's really a rebadged Toyota" sounds like something someone would say when trying to justify buying a French car to his mates. ;)

The Citroen C-Crosser and Peugeot 4007, however, are (mostly) rebadged Mitsubishi Outlanders, made in Japan. The japanese interior is a dead giveaway that it's a Japanese car, and that's not a good thing.

I say "mostly" because PSA decided to use their own 156hp 2.2 CR HDi while Mitsubishi had to settle for a VAG-sourced TDI PD140 unit. Mitsubishi eventually moved over to the 2.2 HDi as well. Maybe when the PD140 went out of production?

But I digress.

Come on......you gotta expect a bit of good natured ribbing when announcing on a Skoda specific forum that you've traded your Octavia for another make of car.

Don't take it personally.

Which is the DS5

The white one or the yellow one on the left

Enjoy your pug 200k. Bloke I know has a big pug, not sure if it's the same one as yours as it's too ugly to look at with both eyes open...LOL!

Anyhow he says lt's very comfy and a great mile muncher if a little unispiring as he's got a eco diesel (which figures cause he's a tight git) The only thing thats gone wrong so far is one set of DRLs went and they had to take the front of the car off to change em. Cost him loads as they were not covered by the warrenty, much to our amusement!

Good luck.

Yes it was parked next to Ambrosia the Skoda skip!2012-10-06143849.jpg

One thing is for sure I will continue to post to let everyone know what's gone wrong when. Just to keep everyone amused;)

Brilliant colour - join the Custard Club!

Edit: double post. Sorry.

If we don't hear from you then we'll know you are secretly laughing at us.

The French do a few things very right with their cars and in terms of a distance cruiser I'd say the 508 SW has to be up there with the best. I hope it proves reliable for you. The standard of kit and build quality are now very impressive IMO. :)

Had a 508SW as a hire car just recently. I was very impressed with the pace, refinement and build quality. It really felt a world apart from all the other Peugeots I have been in.

Enjoy your new car,i had a sit in one of them & was quite impressed with how far peugeots have come,if all goes well with my house sale my octy could be going & a kia coming in its place, not sure how well that will go down with some people on here! :bandit:

And that my friend, is exactly what I am trying to do

Nearly bought a DS5 2012-10-05114343.jpg

I had a look at one of those but got the second vRS instead - i really like the design of the DS5 but it just wasnt' sporty enough and looked a bit mumsy/people carrier where the vrs doesnt. Also the spec i wanted was north of 30 grand so a lot more than the skoda - even when the vrs is spec'd up with all the toys.

I've not driven one. Why would I ever want to? They look like they've melted at both ends. I've nothing against French cars but I've not seen a good looking Pug since the 106 Ralleye. Vile looking things - the whole range. And you can't compare them to Skoda which were rubbish and now good. Peugeot have arguably gone the other way...

New 208 GTi isn't tooooo bad looking.

Come one now, it's quite bad :giggle: . I'd sooner have a 205GTI

Come on now talk about emperors new clothes , you are not driving around in Lamborghinis you are driving a 9 year old designed car that looks seriously dated now and hold it up to be some style icon :giggle:

I can't see anyone saying anything of the sort. There must be something about Skodas though because as far as I can tell, you drive a Passat and yet still live on here?

There are *huge* discounts off the DS5, though that doesn't bode well for future value.

Nothing wrong with the way peugeots look at the moment.

The 208, next 308 and 508 are all very attractive for their segment.

I quite like the new 508 estate and if I was after another estate then I would definitely consider one

The 208 GTi does have serious potential. I like the size of the Octy now but if I wanted a second, slightly smaller, car I reckon the 208 would be in with a about.
