Hi all, thought I'd better proceed through the recommended channels before hitting the big boys forums.

After owning many, many VAG products (VW, Audi, Seat), thought it time to return to the Skoda brand and see if there had been any improvements since the old Estelle I ran almost 10 years ago!

Anyway, just got hold of a 2001 Fabia 1.9TDI and I think I'm gonna like it!

I have got a few questions and queries I'd like to pose to fellow briskodians - thought I may as well try them here first and see how I go.

1) Anyone any ideas as to the expected longevity of the famous PD TDI engine? ie feasable mileages on a well maintained motor?

2) Do any members have experience of front wheelbearing failure on their Fabias? If so, can I expect a big bill as my N/S front sounds completly knackered!

3) My rear exhaust box looks very much the worse for wear. Just passed an MoT OK, but the outer skin of the silencer does'nt look good. What are my options?

Anyway, that'll do for now, sure I've got many more questions to come! Thanks for reading - hope we'll chat later.

Welcome to Briskoda and apologies for the delay. :wavey: Hopefully someone will now reply to your questions!

I've had my 51 reg PD100 (Comfort Estate spec) since new and currently up to 138K. Completely standard and always dealer-maintained.

So far it's needed a new sump (sump plug wore out), the turbo blew at around 110K and shortly after the battery died. Fiddly things like the power-steering sensor (quite common I believe) and also the cassette player's broken now. Last service the dealer said I'll need a new catalytic convertor soon as well. :(

However looking at your other posts I see I'm only a few miles ahead of you - don't know what happens at higher mileages...

I reckon not many Fabias have made it this far yet so I don't expect many people know what the common "high mileage" faults are.

Are any Fabia components shared with older models? I know the Ibiza and Polo share a similar platform but I had an idea they're both newer than the Fabia.

I have changed a few wheel bearings. Might be worth checking its not tyre noise though. Does the noise get worse around corners?

Exhaust wise as long as it isnt blowing its still legal. But as for options what do you fancy, std or modified, could go for a vRS rear bumper (or the accessory skirt) and get in on the Milltek group buy and bag yourself a nice stainless item.

PD longevity is pretty good as far as I know, never actually replaced a PD engine.

Definitely get onto the Miltek GB - we need 5 people
