Octy Post Week 23 Rear Suspension Query

Featured Replies

I noticed that "Neuroteek" added a comment on the chrome window insert thread about the fact that Skoda have decided to replace the rear torsion beam suspension on the diesel estates to the multilink suspension because of criticism of the firmness (presumably) of the former.

Can Neuroteek say if it was referring to diesel estates only ? and anyone verify this as would like to know if this was also related to diesel hatch's as well (without knowing what suspension is on it currently). Curious as about to order a 2.0 Octy and want to know if the post week 23 build will have different suspension to pre week 23 models ?

Cheers.

Not as far as I can see Paul.

Checked details of changes etc and multilink is not mentioned.

Ok cheers mate will be interesting to see where he got that from then ?

I'd be very surprised by that if it was true. Did he actually say that though? I seem to recall a post he made a few days back where he said they retuned the rear torsion beam after journalists complained about the quality of the ride with the 2 litre Tdi?!

Yes that was the one I saw, seems he got it from a chz forum, a journalist, but cant seem to verify it, probably just a bit of gossip

But in your initial post, you have suggested he said the suspension was getting changed for the multi link setup. He didnt suggest that, did he?

Yup he (presumably the journalist) did see below :

Just a short off-topic, sorry  ...... when the web site "autoforum.cz" tested the first hatches, they complained about the torsion beam on the diesels, and said it was significantly worse

than multilink on 1.8 tsi, and then, when they got to test 1.4 tsi estate, they said its torsoin beam was tuned much better than the first cars recieved for testing.

They believed that its beacuse the estates were "production year 2014" models, and they predicted that all of the octavia models produced from week 23 onwards, will have this diferently

tuned suspension, as they will all be "year 2014 models".

Tuned. Not replaced with an other.. :) At lest how I understands it. :)

yep, still doesn't say anything about them using the superior setup, just that they've tuned the torsion beam. :)

At least here in Norway its just the 1.8 tsi and all 4x4 that gets the multilink.

Come on Skoda UK, sort out the 1.8tsi or the uk!

Why don´t UK get the 1.8 tsi???

Why don´t UK get the 1.8 tsi???

no other reason other than Skoda Uk's decision not to! :( It's currently what's holding me back from ordering!

OK does anyone think they will "retune" the current rear suspension from week 23 onwards ??

yes, quite probably but I doubt that an engineering change like that would be detailed to dealers (may be wrong of course).

Ok.. Maybe they want you to go for the RS instead?? ;) In Norway only 1-2% of Octavia sold is an RS (To damn expensive)

Maybe that is why we get the 1.8 as a compromise :giggle:

Maybe but personally I'd like the choice! The VRS will have around 40ps more and a wedge more torque - I'd have thought that would be enough to separate them out in performance terms. The VRS will of purse look far more sporting also! I'd guess the actual problem would be that a 1.8tsi matched to an awd haldex drivetrain would be capable of staying with or bettering a fwd VRS in some circumstances possibly.

Btw. Did you know that the 4x4 1.8 has 280nm torque? 30nm more than the fwd 1.8 :)
