Clutch Slip :(

Featured Replies

So i had my remap last week, and was told clutch is going to need to be changed soon. Today i noticed in 2nd gear, flooring it, when it hits 3k revs, it quickly goes to over 4k revs, but there is no acceleration, so im guessing the clutch is slipping??

Also, i floored it in 3rd gear from 2k revs, and it went upto 4k revs, but would not go beyond..So i put it into fifth, and then back into 3rd and floored it, and this time it went over 4k revs, to about 4.5-5k, but was passing that very slowly. Could this be clutch related?

Finally, the OEM clutch on a Mk1 Octavia Vrs, is it Sachs, or LUK??

Thanks for the replies :)

All clutch slip mate.

As for which is the OEM, not sure, but you wouldn't go wrong with either!

Time for a SMF conversion mate

I was thinking about SMF conversion, and asked Nick at Rtech about it, and he told me his 400+ bhp 1.8T Golf, handled the power just fine on an OEM clutch, and suggested the OEM is better than the G60 set up. Therefore Im going to stick to an OEM clutch :-) Just like to know which is OEM; Sachs or Luk??:-/

Sure a normal clutch will be fine if you drive sensibly.... but if you want to enjoy the power expect to clutch-munching....

LUK is the OEM.

When I had my factory fitted DMF and clutch kit removed it had LUK stamped all over it.

I then had an LUK VR6 clutch kit fitted in its place. That was 37,000 miles ago and I've never had an issue, even with the 354Nm of torque the engine's now pumping out!

Pretty sure it's the LUK version, which I have used before on mkIV 1.8t Golfs without issue.

There is nothing wrong with the oe clutch. It's the dmf that dies and causes all the problems.

What's the mileage on the car and had the flywheel been changed yet?

Thanks for the replies :-) It's got 128k on the clockc and no the flywheel has not been changed..

Your clutch is slipping DMF failure is a different issue (shaking, knocking noise at idle, & surging in 4th gear when held at a constant speed between 40/50mph). It is not good practice to change the clutch plate without a new DMF too. The LUK is a complete kit i.e. clutch & DMF. If you buy from ECP you can get 25% discount as a briskoda member.

Last time I bought a complete clutch kit inc DMF from ECP it was about £300, but that was about 4 years ago

At 128k you really should replace the flywheel too.

Absolutely, it's madness not to as the DMF is gonna fail sooner or later.

Is this all i need for the g60 set up??

Thanks for the replies :)

Yep sure sounds like it. Only question to ask would be where the flywheel came from. Did they make it themselves or is a genuine item from VW.

Genuine finished flywheel that you would order has part number 028 105 269 BX (visible on a label or packaging only). The casting part number is 037 105 273 C (which is what you'll see on the actual flywheel casting).

It should weigh around 9.44kg (mine did).

That's great value anyway. I bought all my parts separately from Skoda and GSF and it cost me £178.

I've had a look at GSF online, and their G60 kit is £280. I asked the seller on eBay, whether the flywheel is genuine or not, and the weight.

That techniclutch one wont be VW. If it's made properly it shouldn't be a problem though, it's only a lump of cast iron.

Go with the Valeo solid flywheel conversion kit will out last all others

We use them to replace the oem setup on skode taxi,s

I got a reply from techniclutch, saying the flywheel weighs 6.5kg and it is not a genuine VW item, it is made by Nationwide. There's a lifetime guarantee with the flywheel, so I'm probably going to go for that. Thanks for the replies :-) Clutch slip is gettin worse now, slipping from 3-5ish rpm :-(

Well despite all the info and replies about the G60 conversion, I decided to change the clutch at a clutch specialist for a LUK OEM Clutch. Was quoted £245, so gave it in today. They found wear on the DMF so had to change that aswell. Cost me £540 in total :'( :'( Now the clutch feels extremely light! Is this normal? Will the clutch become stiffer over the bedding in period?

That's normal, it'll stiffen up after a while.
