Driveshaft snapped

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a skoda fabia 1.9 tdi 05 plate. I was pulling out of a t junction when my driver side drive shaft snapped on me, coming from the right wheel it has snapped clean, but it looks as though it has been weakening over a long period of time, like rounded at both edges of the snap. Could this be to do with bad tracking ( going to the left)?

Also, does anywhere sell a solid drive shaft or a stronger one than what comes with the fabia?

I will upload pictures later if it helps but on my phone at the moment.

Thanks in advance

Is the car lowered?

good effort

Yes the car is lowered by 3-4cm

Good effort at what? Snapping it? Lol.

Went to the garage at the end of my road, he's been a mechanic for 30-40years and said he hasn't seen anything like that before, said they usually snap at the cv joints. Has any body seen this happen or had it happen to them before?

if its dropped to the deck that may be why, the old goats at my work always whine and moan about mine been a little low saying im straining my driveshafts n stuff lol.

Ye could be, but it isn't that low to be honest, not as low as some other people's on here

I've seen it on other cars through people wheel spinning alot but these are quite chunky so I'm surprised at it snapping

Well I don't wheel spin or drive like a **** lol. And ye they are chunky but hollow, feel pretty cheap tbh

all drive shafts are hollow they would weigh a ridiculous amount if they were solid.

alot more powerful and torquey cars and machinery use hollow drive shafts too

and just think how much damage a solid driveshaft would if it snapped or broke loose.

at speed probs write off a whole corner of the cars suspension lol .... never seen a snapped one before though so that is a good effort .... normally they just seem to twist

It has failed at the friction weld, maybe due to age/poor materials etc. just fit another and forget about it that shaft handles more torque in more powerful cars than just the 105bhp fabia.

Lots of driveshafts are solid including the ns one on the fab.
