cruse control on rapid se

Featured Replies

hi

im just about to buy a 62 plate rapid tdi

its a 1.6 tdi se but its an ex demo car with 5000 miles.

its fully loaded with 17 inch alloys. sat nav and dab, plus climate control and loads of extras incl cruse control

well it should have cruse, but after bringing it back after a test run, the salesman admitted it did not have cruse, he had checked the spec while we were out and realized it did not have it,

although it was advertised as having it.

he said it may be able to have it fitted ,and was going to check with parts today

i aggreed to have the car if it could be done, but i was not going to fund it. they said ok

i signed the pcp forms and paid a deposit, on the understanding that if it could not be done i would not be having it

today i have rang and rang skoda, only to be told my sales rep would call me back, after no calls i i had a ride to the showroom

i was told germany were trying to find out why the car left the factory without cruse fitted and he would ring me back when they had any info , today or tomorrow.

i dont beleive them, i have a feeling this job cant be done

does anyone know if it can be fitted using genuine parts

retrofitting cruise control with genuine parts is a relatively simple job. It can even be done DIY provided you can code it to the car with VCDS as many on here can testify.

thank you

the car is fully loaded demo, so loads of extras that normally not on se model.

one further question, there is no centre armrest, noticed its a extra for this model. is this possible to get fitted, and what price will i be looking at

thanks

ill check that link out

I asked Lee from Preston Motors about the armrest and he says Skoda haven't made the armrest available "as an accessory" yet, you can order it as a part but it's expensive. Which seemed very odd. Let me know how you get on with sourcing an arm rest, if it's a sensible price I'd like to know where you got it :-)

I have one lol :)

It hasn't got cruise as the early Rapid SEs didn't. The spec was changed sometime in December and it was only then that cruise, rear electric windows and front foglights became standard.

In theory a retrofit should be very easy, it will just require the stalk and coding.

I have one lol :)

:p

Lots of people complain it gets in the way of the handbrake, have you found that?

I would like to get one, but not at the price Lee quoted me :whew: (even he said it was "not cheap"!)

Marky, have the dealer got back to you about retro fitting the cruise control yet?

It does a bit (had one on the Roomster) but I only really used the armrest when cruising on dual carriageways or motorways when the handbrake doesn't tend to get used :D

just on the phone now

looks like it cant be fitted on this model

no just confirmed it cant

only feb onwards

That's a massive bummer! I'm assuming you'll back out of buying it then?

I inquired this afternoon of the Maidstone dealer, they looked into it and the response was 'this isn't available as an accessory yet'. I queried whether it was just the stalk and a program change and they said it probably was but that they couldn't order the part for a car that wasn't fitted with it unless it's listed as an accessory.

It's a bit odd they are saying you could retro fit it to a post Feb model, isn't that when the SE came with it by default?

I think they are talking rubbish and don't know what they are selling. I've never come across a VAG car in the past decade which can't have cruise control fitted. No reason why it shouldn't work!

As I understand it, since throttle-by-wire started to dominate maybe more than a decade ago, most cars with cruise control as an option could be easily retrofitted to any throttle-by-wire engine (generally speaking). It is probably a case of swapping and changing the stalk and then enabling CC via VagCom/VCDS.

The problem is getting a stalk, which in theory you should be able to order via the parts department as a spare/replacement part rather than an accessory. Don't abandon the idea whatever the case.

I think the Rapid shares a similar set up as the Fabia / VW Polo so would require Cruise Stalk set, wiring loom and depending on what version of your BCM you may need a higher version

Indian Rapid is based on the fabia so totally different car.

That may well be the case, but if you look at the link it is from the UK Skoda website with prices in GBP so is entirely relevant!

I've also just noticed that the brochure is dated December 2012 so this talk of 'older' Rapids not being suitable for this may be incorrect!

The after-fit Cruise Control shows in the UK accessory brochure for any car.

Except Citigo, which in fairness is only half a car :-)

Ha! But I did look at a SEAT Mii once which had Cruise control fitted so it is possible on those as well. Shows how mental it would be if you couldn't get it on the Rapid

And a cracking car too for a tiny price. :)

Just wondering if anyone had made any progress with this?
