How to tell if my Octavia vRS has the factory -35mm springs?

Featured Replies

After visiting another Briskoda member to pick up some parts a few week back it was apparent that my Octy vRS was significantly lower. OK, mine is a 06 plate with 100k on it and his was a 10 plate with 30k on it so don't know if it is just suspension wear causing it to sit lower. My car was also totally empty, nothing heavy in there that would have made my suspension compress.

I have been informed by another member (mark_eire) that with the early MK2's there was an option to specify 35mm lower springs from the factory. The previous owner certainly did not do it, and the owner before that was a lease company. The springs themselves are black, so not a blatant red colour like some springs.. but I know the Eibach Pro Kit and H&R springs come black anyway.

However, I am wondering if it was purchased as an ex-demo from a dealer somewhere due to it having 18's, Xenons, Dual Zone Climate, Jumbo Box and Rear Electric Windows - just seems like a high spec demo seems it was such an early MK2 - so may have also had the -35mm springs fitted as an option to show customers what it would like?

Any suggestions on how I could find out would be much appreciated!

I would imagine there'd be something on the plate where all the paint code and engine codes are. Maybe?!

Mine does have the factory option with the Pegasus wheels but its an elegance not a vrs so a bit easier to tell.

Does anyone know what the standard VRS ride height is from the centre of the wheel to the arch?

I was going to have a go at calling the PDI'ing dealer after work and see if the order is on their system still and see what was ordered on the car.... Long shot I know as it was 7 years ago now...

The springs were not a factory order option, they were a dealer fit accessory so decoding the factory spec won't tell you anything.

Take a look at the spring - the eibach option has the eibach logo on it as well as the skoda p/n.

Quick search pulled up this thread which has some part numbers etc.

btw - skoda sold accessory eibachs in both red and black colour, apparently!

Thanks rob_e.. will try and get the car on a ramp in the next couple of days and take a look.

So if it was a dealer fit accessory, then if they have been on from new (which I guess they are) the PDI'ing dealer should be able to tell me?

No they could have been fitted at any point in it's life although I believe they dropped the accessory in 2010.

The -35mm option wasn't available for vehicles with sports suspension fitted, which included the vRS.

It was a dealer fit option for cars with standard suspension and IIRC included springs and shocks etc.

I'd be confident that if your car is lower, it's not dealer fit.

But the dealer fit accessory spring kit would have been.

Just looking at my cars owner history, its only had 2 owners before me.

The first being a lease company (so wouldn't have been done then) and the 2nd owner a chap well into his 50's and looked to be one of those to want comfort over handling (hence why the vRS was sold to make way for a Volvo XC90)....

So that is why I am getting to the point that it has had something done from brand new, unless someone threw some money at their company car while they had it?

I think you'll find people do this quite a lot, although it often goes back to standard before it goes to the lease company. It would have most likely been someones company car and people often cherish those as much as if it was their own. (plus new springs aren't actually that expensive)

Maybe this is what happened then.

Will have a good check when its on a ramp next...

It should be fairly obvious from how it rides. With just the eibach springs it should be a bit firmer than with standard springs.

Never been in another Octy vRS to know what it rides like....
