Stiff reverse gear de-selection

Featured Replies

As the title really: Since first picking up my Monte the gear selection from reverse back to neutral, or first, is very awkward to achieve. It's almost as though the gear lever has been bolted in reverse, that's how hard it is to initially shift. When it does eventually go, it feels smooth and there aren't any noises, but is this a normal trait of a tight box (oo-er missus!), or do I need to have my dealer check it out. Maybe it'll loosen up with time?

Congrates on the new car! Boxes can be a bit stiff when new. However, if it's that stiff, it sounds as if you should let the dealer check it out. It may need a cable tweak to get the gear adjustment spot on for those gears. A tech will be able to tell you and is trained to know what the problem is likely to be. Good luck and post back if you can with any results you get from the dealer.

Thanks. Will pop into the dealer next week.

Mine was still until around 5,000 miles and is much better now on my Monte. I would leave it be for the moment and let it loosen up.

Ok, I'll see how it goes then, but if I do have another reason to see the dealer I'll mention it to them.

Our Monte diesel is exactly the same.. Hoping it will loosen up in time!

Ah we'll, at least I'm not on my own!

Mine is the same aswell. First time I reversed out if my work car park onto a road I panicked as I couldn't get it out of reverse, had to use both hands.
