Suspected boost leak help.

Featured Replies

Hi guys, over the last few weeks my car has developed a small whistle (not the turbo whistle) and a lot of black smoke when accelerating in the low rev range. Sounds like its coming down by the intercooler somewhere, had the bumper and undertray off tonight to check all the boost pipes, can't hear any leaks the clips all look intact apart from the pipe that goes into the turbo, it had quite a bit of play in it and I could move it back and forward a bit and it made like a nocking noise when moved backwards and forwarda, is this usual it could this be my problem? I'm thinking when it comes on boost it maybes moves that slight bit and obviously let's air out.

Also does anyone have the part number of the actual clips?

Thanks in advance.

I remember my turbo pipe having a fair bit of play in it, I was quite surprised. Then again it needs it for the movement of the engine :)

ahh I see thanks Dan, just annoying how I can't find any leaks at all ! Think I'm just going to replace all of the clips and hope for the best, need a part number thow

I've developed something similar myself. I've replaced all the boost pipe connectors but still have the issue so I'm left thinking that its the intercooler itself (either a hole or an issue with the connection to the pipe) but haven't had the time, nor my tools to take a proper look.

wierd thing is is that I can't feel any loss in performance or poor mpg :/
