Are Scout wheel refurbs any better than originals ?

Featured Replies

Mine - the 2nd set - are looking pretty dreadful with the coating delaminating in several places . What kind of life can I expect from a refurbishment or is the basic alloy at fault in being unable to successfully bond with the lacquer coating ?

From what I observe other wheels simply do not have this problem .

Diamond cut wheels are notoriously difficult to refurbish unfortunately.

My bro has a scout and pretty much gave up with the factory finish after a refurb that never looked as good as a factory finish and rapidly started deteriorating - he ended up just getting them stripped and powder coated in a dark silver colour.

See here, well documented with plenty of pictures...

I had two sets replaced under warranty, the second set had been refurbed by Skoda UK so weren't even brand new.

One of them is looking pretty bad again and I've been quoted £60 +VAT for a refurb from a company that specialises in polished finish alloys.

As above the only way to get a more durable finish is to paint the whole wheel.

No good for me though - I like the polished finish too much.
