Clutch Rattle & Slip @ 40k - Groan

Featured Replies

Just done 40k on my 2.5 year old Octavia II 2.0TDi CR 4x4 and the clutch starts to rattle at idle - goes quiet when the pedal is depressed.

Then a week later, the clutch starts to slip when you put you gas it at low revs in high gears. Not very impressive for a stock car with mainly motorway miles.

From assorted threads I have seen on this forum, it appears that the former is the DMF going, followed by the friction plate and this going to cost me over £650 as Skoda has no sympathy for wear/tear items beyond 6,500 miles in the first year (or so my warranty says).

If the DMF/Clutch is so weak, I am loath to replace with stock as re-replacement in another 40k is absurd.

So I am looking at the 'Sachs 2.0 TDi 6 Speed 02Q DMF with Sachs SRE Performance Clutch Kit ' as the threads advise against an SMF replacement on 2.0 TDi (due to 2.0 not having shaft balancers).

Anybody fitted this Sachs kit to a 2.0 TDi?

Is it very stiff to operate in stop/start traffic?

All advice appreciated before I go and spend a lot of money.

Paul

I trust you've approached Skoda UK?

The clutch is fair wear and tear as it is very dependant on the way the car is driven. It is easy therefore for Skoda to wriggle out of paying.

The DMF is a different story, if it has gone at 40,000 miles then this is a manufacturing defect and as your car is still in warranty I'm suprised you are already pricing up replacements out of your own pocket!

Take it into a stealers and get it test driven with u in the car, make sure they can feel and experience the issue and with it still under warranty they should replace the faulty part under the fair wear policy, play hard ball if not and demand it gets sorted or u'll take it further!
