Door Lock Mechanism

Featured Replies

Hi PPL.

Have just spent over an hour and eventually opened my Door...BY LUCK I THINK....

I have taken the door panel off and looking into Door Lock Mech.

I tapped the Unit a few times and it worked a few times and now it is stuck in the lock position.

but door is actually open so I cannot close the bloody door now FFS !!

How easy is it to remove the Unit and replace ?

It looks totally inaccessible TBH ??

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I have seen a Brand New mech on Ebay for £29.99

Thank You

if the door's open, it's a damned site easier than if it's shut! You don't mention which door? I had the same issue on my Fabia with a locked door. If the door is unlocked and open(able), and if similar to my rear door issue, you'll need top remove the door card, carrier and unplug the lock. Then it's a case of unbolting the lock and replacing. There are some guides with a how to on here, you'll need to search and good luck :)

best not to close the door (if possible) if the mech is intermittent as its more of a pain opening when the mech is stuck, now is the time to do the mech. Pretty sure there is a guide in the guides section. If not i will post how.

Hi Guys..

Its rear drivers side door..

I have removed panel and can see mech.

Not sure how easy/hard it is to remove tho ?

Can someone point me to tutorial on here if possible.

The door did open to allow removal of panel but when I was playing around whilst the door was open it deadlocked.

.so I cant actually close the bloody door now

I removed the bolt/lock thingy on car panel so door can at least close and I have tied the door shut with rope to rear seatbelt loop. :whew:

Thanx again

We have had numerous driver door lock issues over 9 years of ownership ... needed new lock mechanism at least 3 times ( door winding mechanism ) - replaced by local garage 1/12 ago . Annoying as a nurse , I couldnt get in or out of car on drivers side ! So had to be done ..... last cost around £ 200 at local garage rates !! This has been the bugbear of our Octavia !! Hopefully new (er) Yeti will deliver ??!! Good luck on fixing it as it is SO FRUSTRATING !! :@:rain:

I did a guide on the drivers door that OET posted earlier in this thread. The rear lock is slightly different and you are in much better position if door is open. The job to replace is not bad actually. If you have a replacement mechanism this makes much easier task than messing to fix your current lock.

This seems to be a common fault on VAG vehicles, my brother in law had a similar experience with his 57 plate Jetta which locked itself shut. Solid. In the end the door release itself and hasn't stuck since but investigation shows it to be an issue. If the door is unlocked and you can get into it best to get the work done because the only two options we were left with on the Jetta was removing the speaker from the door card and trying to cajole the lock or cut the door skin off
