Dead octi vrs

Featured Replies

soo i've been away for work for abotu 6 weeks and have left my car in the carpark work, ran it up before i left, it worked fine started up straight away, came back to it today to find the was no power whatsoever, but the battery check lens hasn't gone yellow to say the batteries kaput, so i've heard from my friend who has one of the new ford focus' who had a similar problem, his car had gone into a sleep mode to preserve the battery and shutdown the car as a safety measure.

i'm just wondering if the octi has a similar thing, and if so how can i get it back out of sleep mode ? i've tried turning the key in the door which is what he had to do to his ford, tried key in the ignition holding it, can't think of anything else as nothing is working

Never heard of this sleep mode. When you say "no power" do you literally mean that, or are you at least able to put lights/radio/etc on?

I believe the battery check light is actually an indicator of the alternator's health. It never illuminated when my battery was on its way out anyway. That said, if yours is a newish Blackline as in your profile it'd be very unusual for it to be a dead battery. They should last 5-6 years.

yeah as in the doors where already unlocked and nothing comes on :S, and yeah its a blackline, only had it since november last year

Did you leave anything plugged into the accessory socket, as it is powered all of the time ?

Does sound like a dead battery, I had a couple recently when the battery in the alarm siren failed on mine (as it can drain the main battery) this was on an 18 month old car (replaced under warranty) but that did show other signs (no confirmation beep and alarm led flashed different pattern).

Sounds like you will need to get it charged or call out Skoda Assist.

Transport mode is only enabled at the factory (probably could do it with vcds) shuts everything down apart from the very basics. Not an option as it switches the alarm off too.

Batteries on these are not the best, when I did the maxidot retrofit had the ignition on for about 20 mins and the car wouldn't start. Had to jump start it

the spec is probably at the very minimum and 6 weeks finished it, i reckon 2 or 3 weeks would be the max

Call out Skoda assistance.

Ive been helped out by them after leaving the lights on all night

okay thanks guys, gonna try jump it tonight, and then test the battery when i'm back in work tomorrow

Batteries are woefully underrated in these, particularly the diesel. Will be flat and just needs a jump.

yep, i left my 1.9 TDI PD octy lying in a carpark for 4 days and went to start it and didn't even crank, got skoda assistance out and it fired up straight away, turned out to be the battery was shot

I left my blackline (picked up in october) in the work carpark for 4 weeks last month while I was away and another lad who has a normal 62 plate CR vRS left his for 5 weeks and when we came back they both started straight away. It sounds like we were both running pretty close to the line on battery charge or you just got a bit of a naff battery with the car.
