Traction Control on VRS

Featured Replies

Hi folks, if I press my TC button on the dash, should it light up and also show up on the dashboard readout as being turned off like the old VRS? Mine doesn't do anything and seems to constantly be functioning?! Trip to dealer?

Just had a hoon round the evo triangle, jeez I forgot how quick this car is?

Also when the XDS diff is activated and working is that like a light tyre squeal kind of sound?

it should say ASR deactivated on the MFD... you'll not set off the XDS with TC on, as it will just reduce the power first...... the XDS feels like a pulsing grap at the front......

You have to press the button hard!

I know on mine (esp+) I have to hold it down for a few seconds before the sign illuminates on the dash.

Traction controls rubbish

After my last outing at Combe I now have TCS off whenever I want to drive briskly. As has been said the TCS will step in before the XDS has chance to work and takes what seems like an eternity to give you power again. It's an odd feeling though. Almost like a rubber band being stretched then pulling you through the corner

I was faster by 1.5 secs with TC off at Bedford, partially by getting the power when I wanted partially by allowing me to throttle steer and control grip levels and stability this way.

TCS/ASR can be more hinderance than help at times; reigns in the power massively in the lower gears in the Fabia and drives better without it on IMO.....that said it does highlight the fact that the Fabia isnt that great at getting its power down.

I think it highlights the fact how much power this car has :)

Nah, IMO it highlights that they havent put grippy or large enough tyres on the car.

For instance, if you buy a Polo GTI or Ibiza Cupra you get 215/40 R17 tyres as standard. I call that penny pinching from Skoda....

I have no issues putting 250Hp/270lbft to the tarmac, albei, i am sporting a bit more than grippy tyres to help it though.

Patience is key. It's not very often I overwhelm the fronts but have been more lately. Bridgestone's don't have much left. Wider tyres would help.

Yes, it's fine - I wasn't pressing and holding!

I agree the ASR is pretty rubbish, kicks in really easily. It was even worse on the Mk1 VRS.

All VAG traction control is pretty poor in my experience, even on bigger more expensive VW models you get the scrabble then the maasive cut in power.

On my wifes BMW there's three settings. First allows no slip and no oversteer, it doesn't kill the power like the vag setup it's a lot smoother. Second level allows some wheelspin and some oversteer/understeer before it intervenes. This is much quicker off the line in poor weather and allows a bit of fun without the risk of a major off. Third level will not cut power at all during wheelspin or understeer/ oversteer but retains the functionality of the ABD -Sport e-diff.

strange the vrs having 205`s as standand.maybe because that size was acceptable in 2010

the monte I had came on 215`s so they werent penny pinching there.

dont think the vrs is high on Skodas priority list anymore!

Nothing wrong with the 205's really, no big difference if you fit the same tyre Brand/Type in 215's, and i did at one point.

The 205's are not dangerous or in anyway restricting the vRS in performance or braking.

not on a UK road anyway at the National speed limits or even 50% over them.

*205 is a given tyre width not the tread width, and not a guarantee of more rubber on the road width wise,

you need to measure the tyres to be sure that the 215 has more width of tread.

.

The SEAT, VW & Audi with 178/182 bhp got the 215's fitted.

A 3 Door Polo GTI ( 1269kg unladen) is heavier than a vRS and a 5 door a fair bit heavier again.

(Lower Emissions given on them which is just the kind of thing that VAG does.

even in 2010)

Did your Monte come new from Skoda with 215's?

(The lower powered A1 Special with 122 bhp comes on 18" wheels and 225/35/18 tyres for the look/style,

but 215/40/17 on the 185 ps car..)

Yes,the monte came from new with 215's

Just assumed they all did.didnt think nothing about it but when I got the vrs it did seem strange it had a smaller tyre size

Cant tell any difference though
