Xenon Headlight Unit

Featured Replies

Am just about to remove my drivers side Xenon Headlight unit to try and find and then sort out the problem of the the headlight juddering and sometimes not returning to the neutral/ centre point, what ever the position is called, so that the drivers side is sometimes slightly high when the lights are first switched on but wanted to check first whether it will affect the preset neutral point when I disconnect the unit and remove it so that I will need to have it reset with a computer once re-installed.

Is this with Auto leveling light or the ones with the cornering lights., Mine has a similar problem - the motor inside the head unit was jammed, had to open it and oil it up.

Shouldn't make any difference to the centre point in the headlight as everything is built into the unit.

I removed both my xenon headlights to swap out blown sidelight bulbs.

Alignment / beam pattern was exactly the same after I replaced them.

As the headlights slide in and out on rails as long as you don't remove or adjust the rails/carriers they will return to the same position.

The factory xenons (on the facelift octavias atleast) have two sensors that determines the levelling. One behind the front left wheel, & the other behind the left rear wheel axle.

If any of these r the wrong way round - the levelling will b all skewed, at times causing it judder cause its max'ed out.

The afs xenon controller sits behind the climatronic buttons.

But u say only ur driver's side is doing this - so it could b something isolated to that headlight unit.

My problem of my drivers side xenon headlight juddering and sometimes not returning to the neutral/ centre point, what ever the position is called, so that the drivers side is sometimes slightly high when the lights are first switched on, has returned.

I thought I had cured it, after my first post back in June, after I had removed the light unit to try to see if anything was wrong and once replaced it was working fine up till about 3 weeks ago when it started doing it again.

How big a job is it to take the guts out of it to try some oil on the mechanism in case it just needs a little oiling, other than that, any one else got an suggestions what it may be before I start searching for a new or used light unit?

It could be the AFS system, it may have a  problem.

That sounds like it could be expensive which is all I need right now seeing as I was made redundant 3 weeks ago.
