Using fogs as DRL on Pre Facelift

Featured Replies

Despite all the arguments for and against, is it possible to use fog lights on a Pre facelift VRS as DRL's and code them using VCDS to come on at a reduced power.? Also are there replacement LED DRL's fitted to any of the VAG range that would be a direct replacement and would there be any Canbus issues?

Thanks

Yes you can, and i have on mine. reduced the output to about 28% which should roughly give about 21w. I set mine to North America which only lights the front, and they turn off when the handbrake is applied. Not too sure if i like it though, might go Scandinavian setting.

I too would like to know about LED replacement DRLs but not the after market jobbies.

That would suit me. What is the Scandinavian setting? Read somewhere that the DRL on Fabia VRS are LED, not sure if these fit Pre face lift or would prove a problem for Canbus. Don't really want the bulb warning light on dash.

Scandinavian is front DRLs plus rear side lights. With that setting you've always got illumination at the rear.

Sarge.

Whilst I don't like DRLs and certainly don't agree with adding them to cars fortunate enough not to have them, the OP is on about setting his fogs at a reduced (20% IIRC) power level which:

a ) i believe wont be illegal

b )) certainly wont dazzle oncoming traffic

Despite this, you claim (on here at least) that you will deliberately switch on main beam if you come across this misguided individual - and yet you call them the dickhead?

For what it's worth I'd also say that those who put on full beam claiming that they've been dazzled by oncoming DRLs, fogs, HiDs or even main beam are more stupid than the person originally in the wrong. It's like saying "I can't see which makes it more likely that I'll crash into you so ill make sure you can't see either and really make it hard for us to avoid each other......

If its a pre-FL and doesn,t originally have DRL,s but has front fogs surely there isn,t any options in vcds to alter them?

I would have thought it only has fog light wiring from standard, but i could be wrong.

Thanks mr_awol for explaining to hidden post. Couldn't be bothered myself. Touchy subject and loads of previous posts after investigating further .the objective was to be seen after being struck by a car claiming he never saw me coming. Think I will just leave my lights on from now.
