Wrong oil for Tdi

Featured Replies

Hi all

Mmm not impressed, I just went to a Skoda main dealer to buy Oil, Oil filter and sump plug and he tried to sell me the wrong oil for my car saying it took semi syn not full syn. I had to get the service manual out of the car and show him the oil spec for my engine which clearly states use fully syn oil. but on a plus side he sold me the fully syn oil at £26.00 instead of £37.80. Rant over sorry lol

It's the VW spec and viscosity that is the most important for tdi engines and not the fact it's Semi or fully synthetic.

I know for my car, a Fabia vrs (PD130) it has to use VW 505.01 and 5W-40. They are mostly semi's but you can buy Fully synthetic stuff that meats that criteria.

Yes, whether it meets 505.00 or 505.01 etc is the important bit.

Well I admit they are both 505.01 but the book says fully syn only, so there must be a reason to only use fully syn ?
