Superb or Octavia 3

Featured Replies

Looking to change me Octavia 2

And got 2 choices really, Octavia 3 or superb. Superb is cheaper and a lot of ex demo etc for sale at good money. Don't really need a car that big and in fact worried its just to big after an Octavia ( parking etc). Way I see it Octavia better size and newer car technology kit etc. superb less cash and better ride.

Any advise from any one who has driven both cars etc would be great.

I traded my March 2011 manual Octavia Elegance for a November 2010 DSG Superb Elegance in April this year. They are both 2.0 TDI 140s. I'm impressed by the Superb. It is bigger but you don't notice that when you drive. Mine has front as well as rear parking sensors, so parking is no problem. I love the twin rear door. Only rarely do I need to use it as a hatchback but the mechanism is dead easy to use if you need to. Otherwise, you have an old fashioned, but cavernous, boot. I prefer the handling of the Superb, with its 18 inch wheels. It drives like a much smaller car. And the DSG box is a dream to use. There do seem to be really good deals on the Superb just now. So if I were you, I'd hunt out a bargain deal for a Superb. Hope this helps.

i have drove an octy 2 FL and i own a 2012 superb, if i'm honest superb fits through gaps you wouldn't expect as it isn't that wide, but it is quite long so watch when parking in bays as you might have a bit of overhang, as its a bit cheaper the now compared to the new octy i would go for a superb and they have more room inside, but do you really need that extra space? well you never know and its always nice to have

Have driven both in the recent past (2013 Superb 170 Elegance and Octavia3 1.6 TDi SE with "extras") and the new Octavia is certainly a big step up in terms of interior quality.

The newer satnav / ICE in the Octavia 3 is a big improvement on the Columbus in the Superb.

As stated though there are some great deals to be had on Superbs at the moment.

I "traded up" from a '07 Octy vRS to a 2.0 litre TSi Superb Elegance Twin-door last February & I've no regrets.

The Superb is much quieter, has better ride, nicer toys & is more "solid feeling" than my old Octy.

It's a little ironic that SWMBO has bought an '11 FL Octy vRS recently (same TSi engine / DSG 'box) so I can make a direct

comparison between the Superb & the vRS, & I'd say that her car is a little quicker, a bit more "chuckable" & easier to park in short parking bays.

But, the Superb is always more civilised, Park Assist makes parallel parking a doddle & since it's still narrower than the Octy 2 FL & Octy three, (over the mirrors, check the brochures.....) so getting it through a narrow garage door is easy.

As for your original question, I've driven an Octy 3 & it's a better car than Octy 2, but I'd like to know more about the petrol vRS before I'd consider trading-in the Superb for one, & even then if the Combi is big enough for our needs I'd probably swap my old Mondeo Wagon for a new Octavia & keep the Superb. It's that nice a car & right now probably a better financial proposition than purchasing an Ocatvia 3.............

Maybe you should find a local dealer & do a back to back comparison for yourself?

The Octavia has certainly stepped up it's game with the Mk3, although the F/L Superb does also look smart but with no real interior tweaks.

Currently there is very little to chose between them IMO as the new Octavia has grown in size and externally is now 4659mm (against the Superb at 4838mm). At the time I got my Superb I was in an Audi A4 and so the rear space was the biggest plus point. Not sure how the rear space in the Octavia now compares to the Superb, but I think it is an improvement over the Mk2 Octy.

I don't know about the UK but, in Ireland, when I spec out an Octavia Elegance to the same level of kit as a Superb the price difference is negligible. Octavia Elegance doesn't have, for example, the Xenon lights, Leather upholstery, Columbus Sat Nav, cornering lights etc, etc

As an Irishman, that video review is hideous!!!!

The reviewer looked pretty rough, like the Skoda hospitality was well used.

11 minutes of him rambling on and 1 minute of external shots - yeah great!!!

2 cents from me

Looked at an Octy 3 the other week,

outside looked nice but I feel it will date terribly fast

inside looked like some cheap Korean effort, full of dull and shiny plastics in contrast to each other, car just felt like a 1994 Renault to me

Superb 2

or 2.5 maybe

Nice to the B pillar then the shape isn't all that, improved rear look on 2.5 model but still a bit of a mumma ass imo, however, inside is sort of elegant and another league to inside the Octy 3

Octy 3 will be more economic with energy recovery etc, but in the end if I had to choose I think I'd still be wanting s Superb.
