Looks ok to me for a cheap car, just like its bigger brother. I've seen a few MG6s on the roads but I'm not too far from Longbridge.

Only seen one mg6 on the roads myself and one at auction. Sold cheap too. Alot of car for the money

Part Polo, part 1series, part Citroen DS3, part Kia and so on.....

The square exhaust is small and ugly and at minimum needs a twin set up with one each side. The wheels look too small as well. The seats look square and uncomfortable (I know you can't judge a seat on looks but it detracts from the appeal of wanting to sit in it) with a rather bland dashboard and a very Kia looking steering wheel. Don't think ive missed anything....

Not keen on this or the MG6. Only seen one MG6 on the roads since launch. Apparently they can only sell them to people who get MG owners club discount, so dedicated fans.

Rover still have their fanboys. Bit ironic saying that being that we are all on a Skoda forum but most of us consider other things. Some are blindly loyal to a brand.

I have a little bit of sick in my mouth now. That's a horror. And pink and blue for a show car WTF!

Living around 25 miles from Longbridge most people who had a Rover had one because they were 'friends or family' so got the factory discount. I test drove one as someone I knew could get me the discount and chose a Renault instead-that's how bad it was! From what I saw on BBC the other night it's a chineese car that has it's final assembly...what ever that is... done in the UK. Can't see the Rover brand doing much amd don't think the big players will be loosing any sleep

Guess I'm the only one that likes it then. Second hand/ex demo will be a bargain. I'd have yellow or white.

Heard some positive reviews for the petrol MG6. Should have done a better BTCC replica. MG have done little to no advertising which has affected sales greatly. I'm a big MG fan myself, they arent bad little cars if handled properly. Previously had a ZR TD with a few little mods was running close to 164bhp/267 ft lb. Was enough to destroy a friends Octavia VRS TDI at work lol.

Thread Reanimation.....!:

I have taken a look at the MG 3 and thought....(or not..!) it might be vaguely of interest ?

There were 2 on display a mettallic bergundy one which looked a bit more grown up than the yellow sticker/stripes version.

It actually looks ok in the flesh, a bit narrow and tall perhaps similar to a Fabia. The doors close with a reasonable "weight" & not a "clang" (or is it just me that likes to test this...?). The boot is a reasonable size for the class & a quick sit behind the wheel seems to suggest that the driving position is pretty good and as it starts at £8k odd looks to be a decent prospect......however...

The interior is awful with strange designs on the seats (think french cars from a while back) and the dash just looks odd.

There has clearly been an effort to make the car look a bit sporty but the "MG" badge on the front seems too big, and the whole thing smacks of a "Design Team" trying (a bit too) hard on a limited budget.

Sadly (to me anyhow) there is simply no escaping the fact that it is a cheap Chinese hatchback that has that historic badge tacked on to try & shift a few cars over here...

Like Chris_1d, I think it's not bad in yellow or white. Sat in a MG6 and thought it was awful, but the Magnette with its proper boot and proportions was a much better car. That should have been the touring car version, but I guess its down to the much better aero that the hatch has.

There is a small MG dealer in Stafford just up from where I live- saw one of these yesterday and it looked quite nice- I was impressed that it had an individual look about it at least and the tri-toned colour scheme looked smart.

However its still an MG and although cheap no doubt it will be bloody awful and it'll only ever have the resale value of dog dirt. .Supposedly all new small turbo engine units on the way so you never know, the engineering in these cars might improve in the near future but would you seriously spend your hard-earned on something carrying an MG badge?  Some of the old Zs were nippy but there aren't many left out there given how many were sold.

I like the colours,  Hello Yellow :giggle:

These have nothing at all to do with MGs or Rovers. They are cheap chinese knock offs, which are put together over here to try and give them a bit of credibility.

From the pictures, it looks a hell of a lot worse than my old Rover 200, both internally and externally. The interior on this is just woeful.

Rovers and MGs may have had head gaskett problems on the petrols (sorted once fixed correctly), but the diesels in the Rovers are apparently indestructable.

These though, they look as if they will be an embarassment to our car manufacturing industry.

Go on then.... lets get myself shot down ;-) (Disclaimer, I'm the North Wales Rep for the MGF Register, own an MGTF and watched the MG6 / MG3 saga unfold)

MG6 - Was stillborn when it was released.... On the plus side, it gave a rebirth to the MG brand which died after BMW stripped Rover (Rover actually designed the new Mini (R53), sods law eh?). On the negative side, it was released with sod all marketing and minimal dealers. Add to that a lack of a diesel option for 12-18mths, low MPG and the car was doomed to struggle. A few "ex-Avis" rental cars can be picked up for peanuts and you do get a ton of car for the money. Changes were made by the Longbridge teams to the handling, suspension etc to make it more suitable for UK roads.

MG3 - Lets get things a little straight here. The Car is manufactured in China, and final assembly (engine, panels, trim, etc) is performed in Longbridge. However, the cars (both the Chinese and UK variants) were designed by a Birmingham-based team before tooling was made in China. Launch has been significantly better than the MG6, with more dealers, car adverts and better launch offers.

Pro's - Cheap for the size (Fully specced model is 9,999), low insurance (4E), Aimed at "yoof" market with customisations ;-)
Con's - Residuals, Thrashy 1.5 Petrol engine, Some cheap plastics

Absolute insult to the once famous brand name.

Does zero for me.

Had to do a job inside  one of those other ones they brought out a couple of years ago, whatever they're called

I was absolutely horrified at the absolute classless poor fitting nasty cheapo interior.

I got the distinct impression the owner was regretting purchasing it too.

He asked for my honest opinion but I just couldn't say it.

Think I said "ok for the cost I suppose" <cough>

At this point, I would like to submit into evidence the Farina-styled "MG Magnette". I doubt the MG3 is much worse than that.

Never been a particularly big fan of any MG tbh as they are a bit of an acquired taste, BUT they do have heritage and Britishness, and a massive following within the UK and worldwide, and I respect that.

These d.i.y tin box offerings from the far east however, are really scraping the barrel imo

The last MG with any heritage was the RV8.

The MG badge was nothing special for years before it was sold to the Chinese.

I don't dislike the MG3, having seen a couple in the metal. It's a £10k supermini and looks fine for the money.
Residuals won't be great, and it's not going to be class leading but deserves to sell a reasonable amount.

Quite liked that MG version of the 75.

Fetching reasonable money still I believe, but also been told to check the cambelt has been changed as they are an absolute and expensive horror show to change.

What, the one with an amazing 260bhp from a 4.6 litre V8?

No thanks

I know precious little about them. As I say, not really that interested in MG's generally, but quite like the look of that one.

Didn't they stick a BMW diesel engine in one of the MG ZR's or whatever they're called too?

Stuck it in the 75 Connosieur that was made in Oxford and possibly the MG ZT but couldn't be certain about that.

Looks like the lovechild of a Mark 2 Fabia and a Vauxhall Adam.
