Retrofit gearbox

Featured Replies

A change in commute to 95% motorway has got me to thinking...

How possible would it be to retrofit a 6 speed box to my PD105? I'm thinking from a fabia vrs PD130? Maybe a superb?

It may be completely impossible but just thinking it might help to drop the revs at cruising speed, which are quite high I find.

Or am I mad?

Darkside Developments have done 'em. Don't see why not.

I imagine you must have to do some serious annual mileage for the fuel savings to be worth the costs of buying, fitting etc of a different gearbox.

Yeah I'm not sure i do the mileage to warrant it. Wasn't really sure what the cost would be involved. Guess it might be easier to just live with the higher revs until new car time. I've had mine for just over 4 years now and done about 55k in it so I might just be getting a bit of an itch. Maybe a new stereo might be a cheaper cure!

Most of my commute is on the motorway & I've got the same engine as yourself. I really don't find it a problem, then again, I do like to play AC/DC......loudly!!

Seriously though, I never exceed 70mph (because I'm a tight buggah) and don't find the engine noise intrusive at all. I'm sure you'll get used to it in time.

FP.

You could get the ratios changed in the current box.
