My old Octavia available - anyone looking for a 1.8TSi?

Featured Replies

I know that good used 1.8TSi are much sought after. Traded mine in last week and it is now on the Skoda used car finder.

In case anyone here is interested:

Doesn't list the extras (it doesn't have cloth seats!) - see my signature

I had no real problems with it except:

Rattle from tailgate - sorted - electrical connector had popped out of the clip

Steering wheel was offset - got full 4 wheel alignment done

It suffered from the Octavia rear wheel drone! OEM Bridgestones replaced with 4 Michelins (about 5k miles ago) cured it but just got an inkling it was coming back!

Things to look out for:

The aircon compressor was getting noisy - would've got it fixed under warranty but they made an offer I couldn't refuse on the new Roomster... It will have used car 12month warranty and Manufacturers warranty until 6th October so plenty of time to get it fixed.

The badges have signs of the white worm!!

The NS front door has a scuff where some scumbag kicked it round about dead centre just on and above the bump strip - I polished most of it out and is easy to miss but get the right angle and you will see it. You may want them to fix it before you buy!

Fuel consumption was very reasonable for a car with this performance - averaged 36mpg (measured) 38mpg (maxidot). Range from 33mpg on local/commutes to 41-42 on long motorway cruises (both maxidot)

DSG box is as sweet and smooth as the day I bought it.

Serviced by DMK on fixed regime. Brake fluid change at 2yrs.

Oil use about 1litre between 10k services.

Best car I ever had in 40 yrs of motoring! Sorry to see it go but I needed to reduce my motoring costs.

Edit:

Forgot to mention. There may be tear stains on the steering wheel and blood on the keys from the crow bar they needed to get them from me...

I'm over it now. Just! Helped by the brilliant little Roomster :giggle:

My god it looks good! Did I really let it go?!!??!!

Taking solace in the fact that I have now done 420 miles out of a tank of diesel in the new Roomster at which point the Octavia would have been crying out for "DRINK!!!" - The Roomster is just below half and Maxidot says another 300miles.

You make me feel so inadequate :'(

Not once in 3yrs did I clean out the tyre treads with a toothpick. I could never bring myself to lick the engine compartment clean or scrub the wheel arches with a nail brush. I allowed my 2 grandkids in the back after a day on Filey beach - I know they should've gone in the roofbox but I didn't have one and my wife insisted that at 5 and 2 they were a little too young to travel home alone on the train and besides - it was a long walk to the station up a steep hill and after 5hrs digging, building sandcastles, splashing, paddling in the sea and burying grandad they were tired.

When I took it into DMK's it was spattered with flies and sprayed up the sides with mud (I think!) from my last spin in the Dales

I am a failure, unfit to own such a fine motor car - that is why DMK took it back. I didn't trade it in at all - they repossessed it because I was deemed so unworthy. I hang my head in shame and wonder why the hell I chose to replace it with Candy White :wall::rofl:

I havent cleaned the tail pipes on my vrs in the 3 years ive had it.

Good to know I'm not the only one who thinks cleaning your exhaust pipe is a bit anal.

I think you will miss it - the 1.8Tsi is a fantastic engine and the performance is really brilliant, but I avoid checking the mpg! Considering how quick it goes, I don't worry and it's much better on a decent run. Mines just over 3 years old and it's the second really good Skoda I've owned - the other was one of the early (diesel) Fabia Vrs - brilliant. Both proved to be virtually trouble free, with only a couple of duff switches replaced under warranty.

I'm going to have to hang onto mine a bit longer than intended, because what I want isn't available yet. I could now do with something smaller and more economical, but still with some oomph. VW are bringing out the turbo version of the Up later this year; the Up GT, which looks as though it will be absolutely stonking. Everyone and their brother will want one of these, same power to weight ratio as the original Mk1 Golf GTi

I'm hoping that Skoda will do a Citigo Vrs version in Race Blue...........................

Traitor!!!

You will miss her...

I like toying with the BMW/Audi boys when they race up behind me on the M65... I just slip her into 4th and just leave them for dead :hi:

Of course they race by eventually at over 100 mph but they don`t like it up em by the silver taxi!

Thanks guys! You really know how to kick a guy when he's down :punch:

I will miss the silent surge of power as the DSG flicked from 2 to 3 to 4 ..... AAAGHHH 3 figures! If you think a manual 1.8 is good then try a DSG with the seamless gearshifts where the power just keeps coming with no breaks for gearchanges.

However, one thing that I won't miss - I hadn't realised just how much road noise there was (worse on sports suspension and 225x17's than standard!) until I got the Roomster. I have also been seriously surprised by the 1.6 TDi's refinement compared to my old 1.9 PD, and though it doesn't have the PD's low down punch, 3rd gear acceleration from 40 to 70 is MUCH better than expected even taking into account not pushing too hard for the first 1000 miles. I guess it is the torque that does that: 250Nm is the same as the 1.8, in a lighter body.

So, I was very sorry to let the 1.8 go but VERY happy with the Roomster. Reason for "downgrading" to the Roomster was to reduce costs. I got a good P.Ex on the Octavia (54% of what I paid, after 32months) and with cheaper PCP (Roomster was still on the zero VAT deal), lower tax, lower insurance, free 3yrs servicing and better fuel economy I will be saving around £80 per month over the 3 years of the PCP - more than happy with that  .
