Horrible clunk when braking and pulling off

Featured Replies

Right i have a octy 4x4 1.8t, and when i brake hard i get a horrible clunk from drivers side around the footwell, then when i pull of from hard braking it clunks again but seems like something is going back into place??? ive been to 2 gargages which have had a look under neath but everything looks ok

or if i brake over a small pot home/speed bump again massive clunk dont sound right!

but the arm is sweet all the joints are good and as described it seems like something is poping out of place on braking!!! :S

Front spring broken ?

hi mate, no the springs are in good condition.. loll next.....

Ball joint

Arb bushes

Top mounts

Subframe bushes

To name but a few lol

Rear wish bone bush would be my guess

I would have suggested wishbone bushes too, but the OP says they are sweet. Next would be the 3 bolts for the hub assembly to the wishbone. However I can't imagine any decent garage would fail to spot if they were incorrectly aligned or not done up.

does this look right? because the loud clunking is getting even worst?

That doesn't look too healthy. New top mount I reckon.

I have a similar thing with my 90hp diesel - it is as though someone is hitting the bulkhead in front of the driver with a hammer.

Mine is only on taking up drive at the moment though, doesnt seem to be under braking
