hi all can anyone tell me what happened to day.done 20 mile drive parked on drive.switched off and fans kept running for about 10 mins then stopped.ant ideas please

sounds like the car was in the middle of a regen when you stopped

Interuped dpf regen sounds like. Where the revs higher befor turning engine off? Dont worry to much about it perfectly normal a new regen will carried out automaticly soon. But if you at worried just do a 20 minute motorway drive in forth gear avraging above 2000 rpm.

Nothing to worry about-mines done a couple I'm aware of (and probably some I'm not!). The key thing is not to keep interupting them if possible. The signs to watch out for when you're driving are an increase in tickover and possibly a 'hot' smell as it's heating the dpf up to turn the soot it's collected into ash. If you switch off it won't start another regen until the soot you've just burnt off is replaced, so depending what stage you switched off will have a bearing on when the next regen is triggered. Last one I had I did the same as you when I went to milton keynes. It started the next regen off on my return trip and had finished by the time I got to Buckingham and I've not had one since. If you have the option to let it finish it's next one at the first attempt great, if not just be aware it'll be doing another soon

had it twice on mine, freaks you out when you first experience it.

Seems perkier when doing a regen too!

The wife came in first time she had it happen. "Hunny, I have broken the car!". :-)

The regeneration requirements aren't quite as demanding on the CR and as the PD so no need to hold it at 4,000rpm like on the PD.

Useful document provided by Skoda UK...

I just read that - it says

Drive continuously for about 10-15 minutes at a speed of at least 23mph whilst maintaining an engine speed of 700 rpm or above.

So basically just drive it! In which case how did it get bunged up in the first place?!!?? :wonder:

Even a perfectly working DPF needs to regenerate occasionally.

It's job is to catch the soot that would otherwise exit the exhaust into the air.

Modern diesels, including the CR still smoke, albeit much less, although with the invention of the DPF you never see it.
